Dear Folks,

First, this is OTP to the Nth degree.  I am willing to have anyone who
is willing to share their experiences with me to email me privately on
this subject.  My daughter would like to sell some of her drawings and
paintings on ebay.  Any ideas, suggestions, or experiences would be
appreciated!

TIA,

Vickie B.

Is she selling the drawings/paintings AND the copyright/printing rights?

I'm going to die rather sooner than I'd like. I tried to protect my
neighbours from crime, and became the victim of it. Complications in
hospital following this resulted in a serious illness. I now need a bone
marrow transplant. Many people around the world are waiting for a marrow
transplant, too. Please volunteer to be a marrow donor:

That would have been my first question as well.  If she is selling
prints of her work, she needs to make that clear in her description. She
also needs to copyright her work with the US copyright office before she
does this. That is easily done by taking photos of her artwork, burning
them onto a CD, and sending the CD along with the Form VA (available on
http://www.copyright.gov) and the fee of $30 to the copyright office.

Then when she puts her work on eBay, she has to specify that she is
selling only the print, and that the buyer does not have the rights to
print or publish her work anywhere.

There are a number of pamphlets she can download from the US copyright
office website so tell her to look there also, if she hasn't already
done this.

KJ has done a lot of ebay selling, mostly of recycled clothing, so you might
try emailing her to ask for any suggestions.  I don't think she has the time
right now to drop in here.

I don't know how well artwork sells on ebay.  Depending on how much she has
to sell, your daughter might want to look into http://www.yessy.com/  It's a
set price online gallery rather than an auction site, but my brother and SIL
have been selling some of her stuff there as well as having heard about it
from other artists and they have a high opinion of the operation.

Yes she does want to sell the originals but without rights to recopy
and reprint.  Thanks for the good advice.  I'm checking into these
things!
