A few weeks ago, my grandmother's left leg began to swell everytime she
stands and/or walks. When she lies down, the swelling goes away
completely. She told me that it began when she wore an uncomfortable
pair of shoes. It doesn't hurt; it just gets swollen from the knee
down. Except for arthritis, she's healthy, active, and eats well and
she doesn't suffer from any diseases. She's reluctant in going to a
doctor because she had an unfortunate experience with her husband (my
grandfather) and she's scared that it may happen to her. Any help would
be appreciated.

While I understand her apprehension, there is no substitute for medical
attention for basic diagnosis and treatment.
We really can't be a substitute for a doctor. It isn't fair to her or to us
to to doctors for that matter.

I hope someone in your family steps up and takes responsibility for
getting your grandmother to a doctor. Ya know,,,, she could have a blood
clot in that leg and when it gets loose,,,,,, aaah well,,,, you know....
