Can anyone recommend an electric can opener for someone with severe
arthritic and weak hands?  My mother previously had a Presto - Above All
that worked well for her but it broke.  I can't find that brand and model
anymore.

Any suggestions will be appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

I don't have a car opener recommendation, but I do have a jar
opener recommendation, should anyone need one of those

The Black and Decker Lids Off Jar Opener works well.
I've found it useful for jars with thick lids that don't work with
those manual seal breaker tools.  The only down side is that
the Lids Off uses a lot of counter space--it's got about the
same footprint as a coffee maker.

and if you can't afford one new, keep your eyes open at thrift stores!  I
just found one at a local thrift for $4 and my mom's getting it for
Christmas. It's too bulky for our kitchen and I DO have the DH as a last
resort jar opener  :)

As for can openers, I haven't had an electric one for ages - I just make do
with with the really large handled hand ones as I don't use that much stuff
from cans anyway.  Found nothing on the Arthritis Foundation and Consumer
Reports websites, so I googled "easy-to-use electric can opener".  This one
gets of rave reviews, far more consistently tha others:

NAYY. of course, you can buy it elsewhere, this is just the only site I found
with much in the way of reviews.  Epinions, pricegrabber, etc. didn't really
have can opener reviews.

Have you checked the Internet yet, Jerry, to see if you can find the Presto
brand?  Hope you have success.  Nanny

It is no longer available - I tried checking online and replacement
parts weren't available.  According to the Presto site, they no longer
make can openers.  I have a Black and Decker Space Maker that mounts
under the upper cupboard.  I couldn't find a new one that had the jar
opener under it, so mounted the old Presto behind the new one.  Now we
have a can opener and the jar opener in the same space.  Good luck.
