Hi! I have RA and my doctor wanted to start me on Remicade but my insurance
only pays 80% and I couldn't afford the 20%. So, then he said we would go
with Enbrel but, I have the same problem. I can't afford the 20%! I've gone
through all the patient assistance places they've offered me and they all
say my husband makes too much. They don't consider any bills or anything
that's coming out of that I guess. Anyway, what would you think would be my
next best alternative in the way of a medication that's not so expensive? My
feet hurt sooo bad sometimes I can't even walk. I hate to come in with a
problem right off the bat but I didn't know where else to turn. Thanks in
advance for any help you can offer.

How long have you been diagnosed with RA and what Dmards/nsaids have
you had to date?

Also how effective have they been?

Have you tried methotrexate and combination therapy such as
sulfasulazine or plaquinel?   They are inexpensive and quite
effective.

I go back to the doctor on Dec. 21. I will ask him about that then. I know
before he didn't want me to go on the   methotrexate because of the liver
problems it can cause. But, my liver numbers are great so I don't think that
should be a problem. Thanks

Many of us who take meds that harm the liver take Milk Thistle for
protection.  It works!

Is your Dr a Rheumatologist?  I am surprised this would be a huge
issue with a Dr that was comfortable prescribing methotrexate.

Yes, he's a rhuematologist. It's because I had the hepatitis c previously
that he's so concerned with the liver. But, that's been taken care of now so
maybe he will.
