Started bleeding Saturday (well, noticeably bleeding anyway).  Was probably
the voltaren.  I haven't had any since then and am still hurting and
bleeding.  I see my internist this afternoon.

Somebody please shoot the idiots who took Vioxx away from us!

Can't you still get it as a 'black label' drug in the States?

I'm going to die rather sooner than I'd like. I tried to protect my
neighbours from crime, and became the victim of it. Complications in
hospital following this resulted in a serious illness. I now need a bone
marrow transplant. Many people around the world are waiting for a marrow
transplant, too. Please volunteer to be a marrow donor:

Hi Walt
Is Voltaren the same as Voltarol (diclofenac)?
Isnt Celebrex Celecoxib very similar to Vioxx?
Hope you feel better very soon.

Yes.

Not that similar.  I was on it for years, until it stopped working.  It
tried it again when they pulled Vioxx and it was worthless.

Thanks.

Walt, hope you've seen the internist by now and have something to take
care
of the problem.  Please keep us posted.
I'll be in line to shoot the idiots even though I had to stop taking
Vioxx;
it was wonderful help while I was able to take it.

I heard vioxx might be put back on the market with the warnings on the
label. heard it on the news one night when Merck won their case against the
person who sued them...

So you never know.  I truely believe they should give us all the pros and
cons of these drugs and with the help of an MD YOUR MD, you and them decide
which is best for you to take. ONE that makes or might make you have a
heart attack or stroke, or one that makes you bleed to death.  That is what
"past history, past illness, past health issues is all about!!.   And the
risk we take to do anything.  Choice

Sorry but those "idiots" think we know nothing on figureing out what we
can and can not do to help ourselves, let alone decide what we need to have
a decent life.

hope this makes sense

Pretty much as expected - stop the voltaren, let it heal, then try a
different NSAID.  Of course, I already knew that, but you still need to see
the doc just in case.

I'll talk to my RD about what to try next.  There aren't a lot of options
left.  I'm thinking I'll have to see if I can get by without anything for a
while.

ah, that sucks Walt.  I had major stomach troubles last week that I feared
was Voltaren, but seems to have been a long-lasting bug.  Still, nothing has
worked as nicely for me as Bextra did and I'm seriously missing the stuff.
It doesn't help that I know all too well what my RD thinks of them having
pulled the COX2s from the shelf!  (he views them as good meds WHEN properly
prescribed with proper oversight)

Thanks.  I'm doing better.  I restarted the Voltarin Thursday, since I
basically couldn't move.

We decided to add 200 mcg of Misoprostol twice daily to my medication list
as a stomach protectant.  That's on top of 40 mg of Nexium twice a day.
Misoprostol is what they add to voltarin to get Arthrotec, but my insurance
won't pay for Arthotec.  They will pay for voltarin and misoprostol, which
are both available as generics.  Economically, it actually does make sense.

Walt.

The other approach to this problem seems to be to use proton pump
inhibitors such as omprazole.
