I tipped over and out of my older Optiway  (FORTRESS) scooter.  I got it
in 2000

I figure that the floor of THAT scooter is narrow....

I was reaching for a sweatshirt.......the whole scooter tipped over!   I
landed in clothing---next to me was the phone

9-1-1-   HELP!

The fire deptartment had to rescue me--as I was pinned between the
scooters on one side and clothing (and a table) on the other.....I
couldn't move or reach the scooters or move them.....the paramedics came
to my aid  moved the scoots outta the way and got me upright.

I am all right..............was not hurt

Just be careful when reaching for anything while sitting on/in  your
scooter

You may tip over---if your scoot floor is narrow

My newer one has a  WIDER floor.  It is a  Pace Saver III by Leisure
Lift,,,,,,,,,no tip overs YET!

Was it a three wheeler or a four wheeler?

I'm going to die rather sooner than I'd like. I tried to protect my
neighbours from crime, and became the victim of it. Complications in
hospital following this resulted in a serious illness. I now need a bone
marrow transplant. Many people around the world are waiting for a marrow
transplant, too. Please volunteer to be a marrow donor:

3 wheeler..........

I went for a 4 wheeler despite the poor turning radius because I was
terrified of tipping and having more bones break...and then comes the
bleeding and other not so fun stuff. I've almost tipped a few times even
with my 4 wheeler. One thing that has me worried about going to an
electric wheelchair is the higher centre of gravity and thus greater
potential for tipping. I'm glad you had the phone close by.

I have not gotten a electric wheelchair.  Don't like the joystick (very
touchy) and you cant really carry groceries home--no floor!

I am used to 3 wheelers,,,,,,,,4 wheeelers (better stability)  reduce
turning radius

The deluxe seat on the 2000 FORTRESS isn't much--not a lotta padding

I usually DON'T tip

The PACE SAVER PLUS III (my newer one) had a faulty starter.....got it
back

Has a more comfy seat too--love that!

I know what you mean! I feel every little joint in the pavement (campus
is mostly brick paved) right in my spinal fractures with the shoprider I
have to tide me over until grant money comes for a wheelchair (though it
looks like I won't be getting any assistance until I'm completely bed
ridden with fractures). Solid tyres and no seat cushioning to speak of.

I had a choice between a 3 wheeler with a new model seat and a second
hand (but unused) 4 wheeler with the old seat. I made the right choice
in going with the 4 wheeler despite the poorer seat as I anticipated
problems with tipping as I try to be as mobile as possible, even though
most environments here are decidedly disabled unfriendly.

Another thing is uneven sidewalks and slanted walks.....i use my balance
(body weight) to slowly navagate--shifting body OPPOSITE of the slanted
area to keep from tipping

Shift body RIGHT-- if slant is on the left

You have to have the confidence to try it. I have done it quite a
bit--know what i'm doin'

Those cordless phones come with belt clips for a reason.  (Not that I ever
seem to remember that either)

So glad you were able to summon help fairly quickly.

Yeah,

But read the other messages........4 wheelers can also tip over --as can
electric wheelchairs depending on the circumstances---and the skill of
the operator.
