YEAH!!! If I could dance I do the Happy Dance. At least until the time
comes to remove this thing and change the dressing on Wednesday that
is.  The nurse/rep of the machine compay came today and walked the home
health care nurse thru the application for those with difficult skin.
Apparently they had neglected to tell my nurse that even with the
special adhesive to protect the skin, a small overlay of tagaderm still
had to be applied to the skin. With that skinny little sliver of
tagaderm (which I may be spelling wrong) a proper seal is now in place
and the machine "sucks" in a good way. I think it will be ok in removal
as long as they use the adhesive removal when they try. The nurse rep
gave the home healthcare nurse instructions on how to leave the seal
material in place and just remove the dressing which will be fine as
long as it doesn't stick to the wound. If it sticks to the wound, we
will have to soak the sponge (dressing) with saline which will break
the seal and then have to remove the whole dang thing and start from
scratch. Keep your fingers crosed for me on Wednesday.........Glad this
is over for now.  DianeW

Very glad for the good results with the rep from the nmachine company.  Will
pray that the home health care nurse
absorbed everything she was told today so Wednesday will be a piece of cake.

So happy the vac is now working properly. Hope it gives the desired result.

Alex, the young man who injured himself so badly also just started vac
therapy on a skin graft that won't take. Hope the vac works like it should
and like the docs hope AND that you both heal properly.

Yes, his leg (over a spot where muscle had to be removed).

If the vac doesn't work, he'll need another graft. It would be his 4th. And
until the graft takes and the wound starts healing, he can't be placed in
rehab because he's not ambulatory. He's been in the hospital 6 and a half
weeks now.

His mom says his attitude is pretty good. And his friends have been making
the schlep down into Boston to visit. They keep bringing him candy and
stuff. But he's really frustrated at not being able to walk, or even start
working towards it.

The parents are alternating who spends the day/night with him. Not sure how
they are working that out with their employers.

Thank you for keeping him in your prayers.

I'm sorry it's taking Alex so long to heal. He must be so frustrated.
He's not diabetic is he?  High blood sugar can make it harder for
wounds to heal so maybe candy, while being thoughtful, may not be the
best treat for him! My wound care clinic is always on me about my blood
sugar numbers when I go in.   DianeW

Nope, not diabetic. The muscle underneath the skin had to be removed because
it was died. I think his mom said the lack of healthy blood-fed tissue
underneath is compromising the skin grafts.

OK - typing issue, not grammar issue!!!!!

Meant to say the muscle tissue was dead.

I'm happy for you. Now let's hope you get a "good" nurse on Wednesday. We
had one that wasn't sure what she was doing so we requested her not to come
again. She was ok with that as she wasn't sure why the sent her in the first
place. She did tell us what her special area was. The rest were good and
waited a little bit before they left to make sure the 'seal' held. Like I
had stated, DH did have quite a problem with tape.
Will be watching for your updates.

I'm going to have the same nurse everytime as far as I know. She lives
in my area so that makes it easier for her. And I think she's good. She
was just missing a piece of important info about the deoderm
application. Can't fault her for that!  Is that what they used in place
of tape on your husband?  Or did they use the tagaderm drape on him?
