I had my right elbow replaced in 1994. It has loosened and caused me
to fracture my humerus. Does anyone know if replacing elbow
prothesises is very successful? Once the fracture is cured the doc
wants me to replace the elbow again. I'm concerned about this
procedure because the lower arm bones have long cemented inserts.
These inserts may fracture when the doc tries to remove them. Has
anyone just lived with a loose elbow replacement? What are my options?
I'm sorry I don't have any information for you. I also have an elbow
replacement. The surgery was done in 1992 and I also did not get any
information about possible longevity and potential complications
(fractures). I did some research online, but did not find anything
about TER fractures.
I had an incident last year where I over-rotated my elbow and tore some
scar tissue. X-Rays were negative for fracture, but the pain was
nearly unbearable. I can't imagine what kind of pain you're in with a
fracture!
I hope you get some answers soon.

The fracture and loosening isn't particularly painful. I actually
think I fractured the humerus in August. I've had painful incidents
with my elbow before and just wrapped it and eventually it felt better.
This time the arm didn't improve.
I hope someone out there has had experience with replacing an elbow
prosthesis.
