I've been buying SAS brand for shoes/sandles.  They're really great and
I love them.  They don't however have anything dressy. I'm going to
some formal events soon and I am at a loss as to what I am going to do
about shoes.  My feet get sore fairly quickly if I'm not wearing shoes
with good cushion support. I've heard that dance shoes might work but I
have no idea where I would go to buy them or really know if they'd
work.

What do you do for dress shoes??

Dear Elizabeth,  I have SAS for everyday also.  But for dress I found a
pair of Munro shoes with a wedge heel, microfiber top, edged in
leather.  Not terribly dressy but definitely dressy in comparison.  I
went to the best shoe store in town where they advertise that they fit
everyone for shoes and listed my problems and asked for a suggestion.
I know that not every town has such a place but you might check out
Munro.  And yes my orththodics fit (spelling?)

Just my .0002,

I don't, to be quite honest.  I've taken to wearing mostly pants for all
occasions, including dressy ones, partly because my thumbs won't co-operate
in pulling up pantyhose.  It works out well though as I have a nice looking
pair of Birkenstock clogs with a rim around the back heel.  I stick to
wearing those with dressy pants outfits for nicer occasions.

In the past though, I'd buy really good pumps.  I think the most comfortable
were a Penny's brand (9-2-5, maybe?) and a pair by 9-West I found at an
outlet store.  For dance shoes, check your yellow pages under "dancewear".  I
know there's a dance store up in Burlington near Duckie, but there must be
one closer to you.

For me at least a big part of the problem is that RA has changed the shape
and size of my feet.  And one of the quirks is that the right foot swells
most of the time so is wider than the left.  Anything crowds it and it just
swells twice as much.

I've gone from a 6 aa/aaaa to an 8w.  I usually live in my Birks or a pair
of SAS oxfords for winter or just barefoot.  If I have to dress up (panty
hose are out of the question.) I get shoes with an open toe and heel and
adjustable straps at least for the ankle, across the instep too if possible.

My dress shoes are from Germany - Lady Gabor's. They
are not available in the USA as far as I know. sigh
Bought one pair one year and the next year when we
visited, I bought a pair of boots and three more pair.
Now as to dance shoes, I wear Supadance flesh satin
with 2" heels for smooth and for latin -- I ordered a
pair of Russian shoes with open toes and a squared toe
lip called Eske or something like that. All my toes
either shoe or are hidden -- not half and half which
most latins do to me. I found that stick on mole skin
[Dr. Scholl's] applied to the area that wanted to cut
into my big toe side fixed the problem. The mole skin
is applied to the SHOE. I had been putting it on me and
ripped all the skin off my big toe once. Never again.
This shoe also has a strap which wraps under the instep
before it buckles which keeps the shoe solidly on the foot.
If you can't wear any type of heel, try Tic-Tac-Toes.
They are padded inside and have a low wide 1 1/4+" heel
or some less at 1/4". They are also cheap and come
either in dance suede bottom or street bottom. If you
don't really need them for dance, then don't get sueded
bottoms as once wet they are useless for dance. The
suede allows for skimming the floor without sticking
but still allowing quick stops when needed.

Couldn't figure out [didn't see it] who my mother
orders hers from but they ship quickly and seem to be
well priced.

Thanks for all the information everyone.  I'm sure it will be a big
help.

Duckie - I've only been on the message board every now and then these
past few months; so I'm not up to date on a lot of stuff.  My grandson
who'll be two in November was diagnosed with diabeties a few months ago
and everyone is pretty upset.  Anyway, I see you're moving soon.  Where
do you hope to go to settle down.
