Mom went back into the hospital with a blood clot in her groin last
Wednesday. Her kidney function has decreased to 13% and she's sleeping
a lot. They put her on heparin and coumadin which in the past has
caused her to bleed so they've been watching her closely. And like
other times she's bleeding somewhere again so they had to stop the
blood thinners yesterday and give her plasma. The dr is talking about
putting a screen in her abdomen to catch any clots from getting thru to
her lungs if she can't stay on coumadin. Her INR was high and they are
going to try and see if a lower level could be tolerated before they go
to the screen. Poor Mom. It's reaching a critical juncture for her with
everything all at once.
We made it thru the hurricane which was only a tropical storm this year
by the time it reached us. My aunt (Mom's sister) came and stayed with
us so it was a nice visit. My husband cooked on the grill and fed and
fed and fed us! He sure loves to BBQ and show off what a grillmeister
he is! I haven't been feeling too well. My elbow is very swollen and
hot to the touch. Fortunately it only hurts if I forget and lean on it.
But my feet have been giving me a fit again. When I bought shoes a few
months ago my feet had settled down but after only 2.5 months the
insole seemed to stop helping. The store owner felt that they were
still good but after another miserable week I gave up and bought a new
pair which gave me some relief. I also tried some reflexology which
helped some. The muscles in the instep are in such spasm. The massage
therapist gave me some exercises to do as well. So all this combined
together seem to help enough that each step isn't agony but I'd prefer
no pain at all when I'm walking. I just can't seem to get the arthritis
under control again. Of course, not being able to stay on Enbrel steady
with the multiple infections doesn't help. I've had back to back UTI's
and just when I had been back on Enbrel from that my wound became
infected and I was back on abx again. So....I'm due my second Enbrel
shot today since that infection is over. I'm sure the stress with
Mother doesn't help.
I've been reading and keeping everyone in my thoughts and prayers but
not writing much. Know I'm thinking about everyone.....

Boy, Diane...I'm sorry that you have so much going on.
Your talking about your Mom reminds me of my Dad. When he was being
treated for his lung cancer which had spread to his brain, he developed
some clots. They installed that screen you were talking about. I was at
the hospital and walked with him when he came out of the OR and back up
to his room. The surgeon said that he wasn't to stand up for so many
hours. When we got to his room, I walked in and turned around waiting
for the orderly to wheel in the gurney, and I saw the orderly GETTING
MY DAD on his feet!! My Dad started bleeding profusely and we had to
get the surgeon up there to make sure that the screen hadn't become
dislodged.
These are bad memories for me, so I can imagine what you are going
through.
As far as your feet, I can identify with you there as well. Plantar's
fascitiis and problems with the balls of my feet have haunted me this
entire year. I have found that a paraffin wax bath helps them
tremendously. They're not too expensive and the relief is awesome-at
least for a little while.
I'm sorry for what you are going through, and even though I am a newbie
here, please accept my good thoughts and prayers for both you and your
family.
