I am in a great deal of pain and I am about take one of these medicines. The
doctor gave me samples of each.
Before I spend a huge amount of money on one of these medications, I just
want to make sure that I get the best one.
Also, I don't want any weight gain, so any suggestions would be really
appreciated.
Thanks To All....

Barry -- I don't think anyone can answer your question. Some meds work for
some folks, some don't.
I was on Mobic, Celebrex, etc. and none worked for me. We finally settled
on Lodine and that is helping. I've read other people have been on Lodine
with no help whatsoever. I think it's just a matter of trial and error.
Good luck!!

I don;t think that any of these should contribute to weight gain.
Arthrotec is voltarin but with the addition of misoprostil because it
can protect the lining of the stomach. Problems with the stomach are a
serious complication of taking NSAIDs so it is best to take them with
meals.
Otherwise it is pretty individual. What workes well for one may not be
so good for another.

I have been on plenty of meds over the last 5 yrs from celebrex down to
bextra. The full spectrum except for the new methra stuff......
Told many things by many people and it all depends on how your body
accepts the drugs. You
might have to spend the bucks to find the right relief for you.
Good luck

I agree with all the other posts I've seen - different things work for
different people.
I'm on Mobic right now, which is better than nothing (but only
slightly). Celebrex made me stupid, Bextra nearly killed me (allergic
reaction) and I'd be a *very* happy gimp if I could get Vioxx again.

I would be the happiest gimp on the planet if I could score some Vioxx.
I'm on ultram (tramadol) and was put on Mobic after Vioxx was yanked
from the market. I nearly went nuts--depression, muddy thinking, and so
on, after about 5 mos. or so on it. I thought it was "me" but after
getting desparate I quit taking the mobic, and the symptoms cleared
up--but only after some really crazy, miserable, scary, months.
Now I'm looking for something else. Nothing more than big doses of
naproxen to tide me over which does a little bit but not much.
Back when I was on ultram and vioxx, I felt almost normal, as long as I
was stretching and doing PT.
Now I'm back to feeling absolutely miserably crippled and twice my age
due to the pain and inflammation.

All three can be good anti-inflammatory medications. Which is best for any
given person is highly individual. Some folks here love Mobic, but it made
my ankles and feet swell to the point that walking was decidedly painful.
the later two are roughly equivalent. Voltaren (generically diclofenac
sodium) is an anti-inflammatory medication. Arthrotec is diclofenac sodium
with a (potentially) stomach protecting medicine called misoprostol added. I
say potentially because as many as 1/4-1/3 of folks find that misoprostol
aggravates their stomach more than it helps. I'm one of those and I know
there are others like me here.
Voltaren is the only one currently available as a generic, so if long-term
cost is a concern, that might be the one to start with. Otherwise, your best
bet is to try all of them and see which one is best. (When I started this
arthritis business, there were 8 classes of NSAIDs (non-steroidal
anti-inflammatory medications) and my rheumatologist tried me on at least one
from each class to see which would help the most. Don't get discouraged if
it takes some time to work it all out for you.)

Thanks' to everyone for you help...
I have been on Tylenol Codeine #4, Oxicodone and Vicoden ES with no relief
from any of them.
I am going to try Darvocet tomorrow. I prey that it works.
I also started the Voltaren today, I hope this doesn't take a long time to
start working...
