old socks and stuff

for anybody, who will undergo hand surgery in the future.  a good tip is:
old socks are much easier to put on with one hand.  the elastic is stretched
just enough that you won't feel like you should paint a target on the wall
and keep score.  new socks actually shoot across the room off your toes,
just when you think you "almost have it" over your toes.  an old sock just
collapses, laughing, as it kind of slithers from your grasp to the floor.

i think i need a hug, cuz i'm wimpy this morning and my cats aren't in the
mood to give me one.  they're actually annoyed that i can't open their zip
lock snackies.  mugs keeps looking at me like, "go get a pair of scissors,
for pete's sake!  don't worry about fresh.  just empty the bag.  you know i
won't leave anything to get stale.  besides, the magic treat can will keep
having more goodies kittens, like it always does."

my right hand is vociferously objecting to doing all the work in its
marriage arrangement with my left hand.  i think my right hand thinks it
never swore to "for better or worse".   truth is, my right hand is still
probably doing far less than my left had been doing pre-injury, cuz i'm not
doing much of anything, at all, this past week and i think i'm doing a
pretty good imitation of acting like it doesn't matter.  today is ring
finger day for typing, cuz of carpal tunnel.   anything i do makes my right
hnd grumpy, doesn't seem to matter.  can't wear my brace cuz i can't get out
of it, when i need to, without help.  that's not a good thing when no one is
home.

i think i'm, maybe, just nervous about the falkner-esque short story title,
"tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow and so forth . . ."

{{{{{kate}}}}, i was just trying to remember how I felt before my first
hand surgery and want you to consider yourself HUGGED. It will, of
course be over before you know it and then it is just a matter of day
to day focus on healing and rehabing. Don't allow yourself any extra
duties other than those two. Everything is about the hand for the next
several weeks. It is going to be worth it and all will be much
improved.

thank you, johnie.  i needed that. i'm trying to get everthing caught up on
laundry and bills today.  and i've been making an essential check list for
my son, poor guy.  but i'm thinking poor cats, algae in the hot tub,
mountains of recycles in the house, and a mailman who just tosses mail on
the grass and runs (cuz the mailbox is jambed full) if i don't.  knowing
alex, he'll sweetly focus on being very attentive to me and leave the rest
for me to deal with later otherwise.  sigh . . . i really hate putting all
this on him.

just got a call from my surgeon's office.  he didn't like having my post-op
appmt "that far out" on thursday, so he moved it up back to tuesday morning.
two days makes that much difference?<scratching my head>

that'll be the time to tell him that the best way to help you is to take care
of A and B and C (and D thru M?) so you don't have to worry about them.  And
then, of course, thank him very sweetly for all his help in taking care of
the things that were on your mind.

Here's an extra big hug just for you!

(((((((((((((((((((((((kate)))))))))))))))))))))))))))

Thanks for the laugh!  I enjoyed your story.  I'm having this surgery
on my ankle at the end of the month!  At least, I'm not expected to be
able to do anything for awhile!

Take Care,

Vickie B.

a little late for me to be mentioning this, but TEETH, girl!  Use your teeth!
well, not for the socks, unless you are surprisingly good at the pretzel
move (not likely with your back!) but certainly for opening the ziplocks.  I
have a nice simple wrist brace that closes with only one wide strip of
Velcro.  Can take it off with my teeth if need be, though I haven't needed to
of late, thank goodness.

You have me thinking ahead to my possible thumb surgery, which will most
likely happen in our winter months.  My winter socks are all fairly tight
fitting and nicely thick.  And my snow boots are a bit of a struggle to get
into even when my hands are doing fairly well.  Well, my slippers are warm
and fairly easy to put on.  Mike'll just have to help me when I go out - and
I guess I won't go out for a few days unless he's home to help!  sigh.......
time to reconcile myself to that.

You and your surgery are in my prayers.  May today go well and may your
surgeon be able to work wonders.
