Kelly Cobb - 04 Oct 2005 01:52 GMT Hi everybody, I sometimes forget that when I come here simply to read and offer up prayers, etc. that you don't know I've been here and may wonder what I'm up to.
Overall, things are okay. Rachel is still having some breakthrough seizures, but I spoke with the neuro. nurse today about increasing one of her meds., so we'll see how that goes.
Rachel is doing exceptionally well in school this year! Her grades are top notch and she is excited to be there. She's also started 5th grade band, and will be playing the flute. She wanted to play trumpet or trombone, but the band teacher felt that flute suited her better for now. Yay!
Arthur is kind of kicking my fine wide arse right now, and I'm having a bit of a hard time staying upbeat. My neck is crunchy and my lower back hurts close to the spine on the left side. That can't be good, can it? I have an appt. with my PCP on Weds. and my RD on Friday. I'm finally getting my TB test (thinking of you, Harv) and will be glad when that worry is behind me. I almost forgot that this last week also contained a bout with pink eye for me. Where this stuff comes from, I have only one clue-Rachel. All those kids get back together after a long summer and share their mutated germs with one another. Then they go home and make everybody sick.:)
In the meantime, I continue to hold you all in heart, read every day and hope you all remember me.(g)
Much love to all, Kelly C.
Signature I don't know what your problem is, but I'll bet it's hard to pronounce.-Bumper sticker

Jo Firey - 04 Oct 2005 03:50 GMT For Rachel
The worst part of my hearing loss has been the loss of music. It was once an important part of my life.
I've got back the ability to hear speech with the implant and now can hear more in the way of rhythm. But the implant still does not allow me to hear the nuances of music. Especially the human voice and also any instrument that has a great deal of resonance, such as the violin or the pipe organ.
But the tones of a flute are so pure and so clear that it is the one kind of music I can still hear and enjoy. I'm delighted to hear that Rachel will be playing the flute. One of my grandsons girlfriends plays the flute and I really enjoy it.

You have to see it. It is extraordinary. It will probably be out on DVD within a few months. I thought of you while I was watching it.

It makes me so happy to know that you are regaining some of what was lost and I wish you absolute joy in it.
Hugs, Kelly C.

Hi Kelly,,,, I am soooo glad I am through with that stuff. I hope it is not as hard on you as it was on me. It is kind of like taking a DMARD. You know that you have to take it and it is for a good reason. That bacteria much be controlled and when you have an X ray that looks like mine does,,,,, with all the scar tissue from RA lung and 3 packs a day 25 years ago. Lord knows I could not afford that today for several reasons. Ya know how you look in the mirror one day and there is this old person staring back at you,,,, that TB medicine did that to me and getting back in shape is a tougher job than it used to be. So it goes. Harv
Diane - 04 Oct 2005 04:49 GMT m, can you tell us a little more about touch the sound?
kelly, rachel sounds like an amazing girl. i don't know how she's able to do so well in school with her health problems. she's an inspriation.

Really, Rach is your average pre-pubescent 10 year old girl, who loves Spongebob Squarepants and art. She's not incredibly athletic, so we thought maybe music would be her other 'thing'. It's art, after all, and math, which she struggles with a bit.
The only thing different about her is that she 'short circuits' now and again. It's not even the seizures themselves that cause all that much anxiety. It's what could happen during a seizure, or as a result of one that's causing concern.
Wow, I am just running off at the fingers tonight. What I should have said was Thanks. We think she's pretty great, too.

I am really hoping I don't have to do that because I am such a wuss right now that I don't know if I could do it.
Thanks for your input. Kelly C.

Sometimes in life,,,, the truth can be a bad example in getting people to do what is best for a person....... Other people I have talked to, did not have as hard a time as I did. I want everyone to understand that in today's world TB is no longer controlled in the USA. If you take a DMARD,,, testing for TB MUST be done to catch it as early as we can. That bacteria must be killed,, wiped out. If you do not test and you have it showing itself in your lungs,,,, IT's four drugs just as bad as the one I took. My GP words are that it is brutal but must be done because you are infecting others. TB is pouring across our southern border. Nuff said about that... Don't get me started on that. No more trips to the mission for me but a person can not do anything about who stands in line at the market. Harv
johnie - 04 Oct 2005 07:07 GMT kelly, the flute sounds like a good choice. bet she loves it. i am sorry your 'arse'is getting kicked by this &%&($*%$&&$% disease. there are better days ahead for us all. johnie

Great that she is playing the flute although listening to the practice is not always pleasant lolol! At least it is not a trombone heavens that would be tough.
Are you on mtx with the E? Sounds like you might need to add something. Hope you get Arthur whipped into shape soon. -- MZ

d'huit - 05 Oct 2005 15:43 GMT (((((((((((((kelly)))))))))))))) kick arthur's butt!
alex played sax in elementary school. believe me, you can be totally grateful rach's beginning her musical experience with a flute. i live on acreage, as do my neighbors, and even they knew when alex was "practicing". one neighbor was delighted when he decided, after a year, that he was done with that instrument. she er. . . bought his year old sax for her granddaughter (who supposedly wore out her old sax and was in high school), but i really think she bought it so alex couldn't change his mind. ;-)

Navy1 - 05 Oct 2005 20:47 GMT You're both lucky, I had two on the drums!!!!LOL
I love to hear the flute. My sister played it at my father's memorial service. She said she would be ok as long as she couldn't see any of us. She did beautifully. I get goosebumps remembering it.

Squirrely - 04 Oct 2005 20:59 GMT Kelly,
Thanks for the update. I hope Rachels meds work out better to control the seizures. I hope she does great with the flute.
I hope you get the help you need with the arthur itis. Keep us updated to what they will be trying next.
It is that time of the year for old Uncle Arthur to kick up his heels big time. So hopefully we all get the help we need to keep him under control.
You take care and know I am thinking of you and Rachel always.
Signature Love and hugs to all Good thoughts coming your way too.
