Walt - I had read about the protein intake restriction and ask the doc about
it today and they said they don't follow that anymore. Which surprised me
because all the websites say things about it still! Thanks....

Or two years. My mother stayed at 19% for over 2 years and died before ever
going on dialysis. Progression of the disease is not uniform or
predictable. The key will be managing her diet and other illnesses very
closely, particularly blood sugar and protein intake.
Good luck!

That surprises me as well. When Micah was in kidney failure two years ago
he was put on a protein restricted diet (no more than 70 grams/day). Is
there another nephrology group in your area? Maybe a second opinion would
be appropriate.

I was thinking about that. But things can change in two years it's
true. He did change her meds and restrict her fluids. DianeW

you might try calling a local dialysis clinic, like davita, to find out what
the new norm about protein intake is, across the board, for their patients.
things change so quickly in medical protocols these days.
