Dear Folks,
Yes I stayed! And I'm glad that I did. The storm went east of us
about 120 miles! So we got some wind and a shower! We also got a
thorough house cleaning. We had settled everything for a major storm
and now get to put it back!
I hope others will check in before long!
thanks for the prayers!

Northwest of San Antonio didn't even get a strong breeze. We have had town
full of evacuees though. Heard some horror stories about taking 18 hours to
get from Houston/Galveston to San Antonio. Every motel room and bed &
breakfast in the area is full. Some folks even loaned out their RV's for
the weekend to help house those who couldn't find anything better.
Counting my blessings and saying prayers for all those effected.

and a me too.... That is the way I saw it. My youngest son, wife, and
baby tried to get to the oldest sons home west of Dallas. They left at
200am thinking the road would of cleared somewhat and turned around and went
to their home to ride it outat about 500AM. Oldest daughter and her son
were going to ride it out in Spring north of Houston,,, no problems. Me
the wife and our cat were going to stay. The cat took it the worst. I have
never seen him so upset and after we put plywood on the front door and he
could not use that door,,, Ooooh he was pissed. A neighbors boy and the
wife and I did as many windows as I had plywood.
Oh yes, I did buy a generator from Home Depotttt and the only one I
could get was a 6000 watt Honda model for $2175. I asked the lady at the
cash register if she thought I could pick up women with this model. I did
get a smile. No choice,,, take it or leave it and now it goes to the back
of the garage to wait for the next big one.
Ya know how Katrina just before it hit N.O. La. took a little jump to
the right to keep that city from going 20 feet under water,,,,, well,, Rita
did the same thing and she crushed some small cities to the east of here and
gave those cajuns more rain than they wanted. I have just gotten through
taking the plywood down and putting it away. I wonder if the road jam is
going to be as bad coming back as it was with people trying to leave. Time
for a nap.

We went to Dallas on Wed. late night/Thurs. early morning and it only took 5
hours on the back roads. Enjoyed 3 days with the kids and grandkids and
came home on those same back roads this afternoon. (Another 5 hours.)
We filled up in Dallas and then topped off the tanks 2 hours down the road,
and that was the last gas we saw. I don't think there's any gas within 100
miles of Houston.
All is well!!! Thanks all for the good thoughts and prayers. I feel bad
for the folks who got hammered, but it was nice that Rita missed Houston.

Oh yes,,,, but with storms there are those that lost everything to the east
of us. There are those that spent a whole day in a car with kids and
animals,,, then there are those people that cut into lines to get gas and
found out that there are some people left in this world that will not let
someone walk on them. People,,, don't ya just lov em....

My daughter in Houston is fine, no damage to the house, and all the
animals at the Houston Zoo are doing well. Only minor clean up to do. I
was so ready to jump in the truck and head south.

glad to hear you Houston folks are ok!
I heard on the radio Sunday that Lake Charles, LA was hit hard by the storm
surge. That brought back memories as my grandmother lived there for a number
of years. In fact, when I was born, the youngest of 3, my grandmother came
to help my mom for a while. While she was in Florida, Hurricane Audrey hit
Lake Charles bigtime. Fortunately their house was ok 'cause Grandmother
wasn't too happy with me for the timing of my birth! (I was born a bit
early, luckily for Mother as I was 8.5 pounds as it was!)
