Got home about 10 minutes ago. This was such a huge waste of time. Well
sort of. There were no beds in the hospital for the some 20 patients
waiting to be admitted to the hospital so they only had 20 beds
available in the ER for treatment instead of a full 40 bed ER. So I sat
with my leg elevated reading and dozing and such. When I finally was
seen, cleaned, irrigated, numbed and had one stitch in my 5.5 cm wound,
the dr decided my skin was too fragile to stitch and it was beyond his
ability. So he made me an appt with a plastic surgeon for 11 am today.
It's an awful wound. It's big and deep and looks like ground meat only
not red. So I came home bandaged and pumped full of Keflex and
lidocane. At least the pain is gone.
My wonderful son who is living at college locally, called my husband
and offered to pick me up from the ER since DH has to work early and
son is a night owl. I had sent my hubby home to sleep since ER's are
always a long long wait. Was that sweet of him or what? It was a nice
visit with my otherwise absent independence seeking son. He even taught
me how to use an IPOD while we waited for my RX to be filled.
I don't know what the plastic doc is going to do. It's beyond anything
I've ever seen before-very nasty. I'll let you know. Off to
bed......DianeW

yuck. at least the ER doc had the wisdom to recognize his limitations rather
than making things worse. let us know what the plastics guy says.
Not too surprised by your son helping - it's very consistent with everything
you've said about him before. Ain't it heartwarming to find out all those
lessons you tried to teach him actually took hold?

oh boy. bummer that they couldn't help you at er, but it's good that you
got to see a doctor who knew his limitations, instead of a doctor who was
over-confident.
so, you are probably at the plastic surgeon's office as i write. i hope it
is going well for you.
as for that son of yours . . . yeahhhhhhhh . . . you did a good job with
him, mom. he sounds like a fine young man.
