Well, our garage is full of boxes and our home is really beginning to take
shape. All our household goods were delivered about a week ago. This week
we've been putting furniture together and unpacking a box now and then.
Today I will be unpacking as many of the kitchen boxes as we can find. :-D

Monday we go to get our new driver's licenses and car registrations. We're
having trouble deciding on what we want on the plates, but will probably end
up just putting our ham radio call signs. Tuesday my sister-in-law will be
coming over to spend the night and then attend a meeting in Columbus on
Wednesday. This gives her a good stopping off point so she doesn't have to
get up quite so early to get there. We'll be babysitting her little dog for
her. Wednesday night she'll pick him up and go back home. It is SOOOO cool
being this close to family. I wish our two kids would move up here, but that
probably won't happen.

Still no callings in the Church yet, but we both know that that will be
short lived. A lay church uses the members to get the work done...so we'll
have jobs there soon, I'm sure. We absolutely love our new ward
(congregation). When our household goods were delivered we had four men from
the Church (two we hadn't even met yet) come over and help unload the truck.
There would have been more, but the day was also a regular women's meeting
night so many of the men were watching over their offspring while their
wives went to the meeting.

The only part of Ohio that I doubt we'll be able to really get into is the
mania of Ohio State University. It's in Columbus and you'd think it was the
only university in existence. This state is crazy for their buckeyes! We
just can't get as excited yet as we do when we watch the University of
Maryland play. Also, I miss getting the Washington Redskins games. I've been
a Redskins fan since long before we moved to the DC area. I will probably
always be a Redskins fan.

Well, that's enough for this installation. As the billboards say, "Watch
this space."

unpacking! ugh. pace yourself. i wanted my left foot amputated after a
few days of it. all better now, tho. or at least back to normal for me.

it IS so cool to be close to family. i've been here a month, and
yesterday i bumped into my stepdaughter at the grocery store! we just
stood there laughing and hugging and loving it even though we'd seen
each other only the day before. it just felt so good.

i'm confused tho. are you in a house or a double wide? i thought you
were going to buy the latter?

It is Diane.  When we had to make the quick trip to Utah last month we
stopped and saw DeeTee.  She looked great then, when she was still in a
motel.  Her mood was good - very upbeat.  On the way back we reached
Pataskala about 11:00 p.m., so we didn't call.  But we did get gas in the
town (everywhere was cheaper than Maryland!) and drive around a bit.  It
looks like a nice place to retire.

Duckie - 19 Sep 2005 21:27 GMT
Not according to the nut I live with. Of course wonder
who did most of the packing and decluttering in the
first place. Poor thing. Helene was here into our third
month when he made some remark about how slowly it was
going. I said with my teeth clenched "it might go
faster if you had done something more than clean off
the top of your desk."
Got a blank stare and then recognition dawned.
Seems he has forgotten that.
I have been living with most of my sewing stuff in
storage and having to go out and buy new when I need
it. And Xmas and Halloween decorations are in storage
as well. He did ask about Halloween the other day.
Maybe that light bulb is dawning there as well.
I am tired of living in a fish bowl without my stuff. I
really have no desire to do it for 6 months to a year
after we move too.
What am I going to do....
Duckie feeling a bit desperate.

Think of it as an adventure.  (Tongue firmly in cheek)

When my folks retired, they got rid of all the big stuff and stored the
small things like pictures and kitchen gadgets and a few heirlooms.

Then they hit the road in their RV.  (They had been coast to coast in it a
few times so knew sort of what they were doing)

For almost a year.  Then they stayed in the RV in North Carolina while they
had a new house built.  Took a few more months to winter in Florida and
finally moved into their new home after 15 months on the road.

They had all their mail sent to me and I paid bills and took care of taxes
and such.  They had a ball.  So did the rest of us as we took our vacations
to meet with them where ever they happened to be at the time.  They had been
in all fifty states and all of the provinces by the time they were done.

Before I make that all sound easy, a few things got overlooked in the
process.  Such as a bank account with the proceeds from the deposit that a
potential buyer forfeited on the sale of their house.  Nearly $8,000 and it
completely slipped their minds.

I've been thinking of you. We have to drive across
country with two cats who have proved during the two
hour weekly open houses that the car is not their
friend and they scream for the two hours solid. I tried
Paku on half a tranquilizer which we gave him 45
minutes before an open house and he threw up for thirty
minutes with me chasing him wiping up vomit on the
freshly cleaned house.
I am NOT having fun and I want my stuff.
This too shall pass but I am not looking forward to it.

Yikes, that makes my situation look like a cakewalk. My cat has been having
a difficult time of things and I added insult to injury and gave her a much
needed bath because she was smelly. I don't know how I would have managed
with two cats.

I think the first thing I'm going to do when we get into the house is give
Lucky another bath...how can one little kitty smell so much...lol!!

Here's hoping you get some really serious offers soon.

Off to the pet store you go.  There is a product called Comfort Zone,
DAP.  It now comes in a spray bottle formula which works great for car
rides.  There is also a plug in refill type unit for the home.  There
is a cat form and a dog form.  Works via pheremones (sp?).  It has
worked wonders for us with several of our dogs in various situations.
Give it a try.  hahaha, just remember to get the CAT formula not the
dog one or that car drive might be real interesting.

DeeTee and Bob Taggart - 24 Sep 2005 16:06 GMT
Bob waited until the very last moment to pack once he realized I really
meant it when I said he'd have to pack his own clothes.  He came up here
with 2 shirts and a few t-shirts. That was it.  Everything else was stuffed
into a box which, of course, went into the storeroom and was just delivered.
When I asked him how he thought he could live all this time with just two
shirts, he replied, "Well I thought I could wear one while you washed the
other."

We still haven't uncovered the box with our dishes and silverware yet.  I
bought a small 4 person set of dishes, but don't want to buy more
silverware.  Have you ever tried to cut meat with a plastic knife?

LOL!  i swear, sometimes i think men never mentally get out of bachelor mode
when it comes to their needs---if it isn't buy more as their clothing gets
soiled and piled up someplace, it is "honey, can you wash for me everyday?"
afterall, it's ONLY one shirt, t-shirt, pair of socks, pair of pants, pair
of briefs.  ô¿ô   personally, i'd rather tear meat with my fingers or teeth
then to keep seasoning my meal with plastic knife bits.

The best quality plastic "silverware" has knives that will cut steak pretty
well.

I'm surprised that he didn't just go out and buy more. Isn't that what

If you can't find the silverware, go to a dollar store and get two
knives, two forks, and two spoons. It will cost you $3 as they are
generally 2/$1.00. Then teach hubby how to wash silverware :)

We found the silverware today!!  ROFL!! It is such a small victory, but hey,
whatever floats your boat.  I just know we're getting closer to finding the
dishes box.  I even brought in a small bookcase for my paperbacks.  And, now
that we're starting to hang some pictures here and there, the echo isn't so
pronounced.  Once we get everything where it's supposed to be (or where
we've stuffed it), I will be taking pictures.  I'll post them on the new

Well, it's 1:45 AM and here I am.  I was really exhausted at 9:00 PM so went
on to bed.  Woke up about 12:30 AM and can't get back to sleep so thought I
would work on the computer for awhile until I get sleepy again.

Yesterday we got our new church callings. My dear husband (DH) is the Gospel
Doctrine teacher (Sunday School for the adults) and I got two jobs:
Employment Specialist and Bulletin Coordinator.  I have done both jobs
before in the Carrollton Ward back in Maryland so it won't be an onerous
task. Our choir sang yesterday and it was beautiful, as performances always
are. Bob and I have had no problem fitting into the ward here - we've been
accepted without a ripple.  We love it!

Our house is really beginning to take shape as we put pictures on the walls
and other belongings in the cabinets and closets.  My DH found the
silverware!! That was super. Now if he can just find the box marked dishes.
LOL  And I am amazed at the number of boxes marked books. I thought we gave
away an entire library's worth and here we brought at least that many with
us.

We are truly enjoying being in Ohio. We've seen my sister-in-law more in the
last three weeks than we have in the last three years.  It's awesome! Next
week we HAVE to get our drivers' licenses.  We keep putting it off.  Then I
have to get a passport so we can go to Jamaica for our honeymoon this year
for our 31st anniversary.  We never did get one before so we decided it was
time. LOL

Well, that's enough for now.

When we got married we must have gotten 12 sets of
glasses. Then we moved to our new apartment and waited
for the movers to deliver the bed, wedding presents and
all those glasses from Nashville. I cooked with the few
things that were delivered to Boston - one frying pan
and one silver serving spoon which went with my silver
set. We ate with two silver forks and cut things with
the only sharp knife we had which was a paring knife.
The best part was the two styrofoam cups which we used
for over a month. I washed them in the dishwasher but
they were nasty looking. If we hadn't been so poor we
might have bought something besides food but we
couldn't afford it.
Two t-shirts lol  John packs almost more stuff than I
do when we travel so that would never be a problem.

Mike still tends to pack only 3 or 4 underwear regardless of a trip's length.
I've taken to reminding him during packing that he isn't carrying his
luggage on his motorcycle and we don't have to lug our stuff to the airport
on the T any longer, so take enough underwear for the WHOLE trip!  (Or a
week's worth at least!)  I think he's getting better about it.   At home he's
quick to tell me when he's getting low and I need to do laundry.  What is it
with men thinking clean underwear isn't worth the trouble when traveling?

We are going to visit friends in Maine soon for the
weekend. It is a three hour drive. They have graciously
agreed to allow Paku and Kiki to come. It will be our
experiment in car travel. If three hours don't go well,
then 5+ days will be awful. I just might have to fly
with them but I have never been a fan of that. The
mighty experiment is yet to come.

Hey, let us know how the spray stuff worked, if you were able to find
any and how the trip went.  I've always avoided taking a pet with me -
I guess...........well, I really don't know why.

I never traveled with a dog or cat, but did with a parakeet once!  We
put a carton of cigarettes (could have use a board that size, too)
across the middle of the back seat and belted him in.  He traveled
fine - had a great time.  When we got to the motel room we would let
him out for a while.  He was good at getting back in his cage.
