Hello group. My MD put me on Prednisone after my problem with bleeding ulcer
using Mobic (about a year) and Methotrexate (about a three years), and
taking one Aspirin per day for about 20 years (Heart problems major).
After ulcer healed (loss two pints of blood) and to relieve me from major
flare-up of hands, fingers, legs and feet my MD give me a shot of Prednisone
(60mg) and within two days my Flare-Ups and the pain that goes with it have
left. I am on a temporary program to see how I tolerate Predisone but I feel
so much better and even the stiffness in my fingers have left. I hope this
is the drug that will help me tolerate my RA.
Any thoughts on your experience with this drug both positive and negative
will be appreciated.
Thank You
Elrac

Positive, I wouldn't be alive today without it. I've mostly used it in very
large short term doses for Asthma. I do get a shot once in a while to tame
a flare. It is a miracle drug.
Negative, I had to have cataracts removed from my eyes in my early fifties.
I've put on weight every time I've taken it and never lose it all. Piles up
over the decades. Oral prednisone is hard on my stomach. Oh, and my
husband would add that it turns me into a raging lunatic. So it is also the
drug from hell.

Elcid,
Please look into the negative effects of prednisone, as some are very
serious- severe bone loss or thinning of bones, skin problems, moon
face, weight gain, etc...
For myself, prednisone has really helped me, but I am on a relatively
small dose and am currently tapering it down.
I'm glad that you're feeling better, but please be careful,
Charlene

positive - it saved my life
i have lupus, and dermatomyositis, and scleroderma, and this drug
literally brought me back to life
negative - i've gained weight - i'm moody now cuz of it- have to be
checked for cataracts, and have my sugar monitored frequently
at one point i thot the drug was driving me crazy
but in my opinion, if i didnt have these side effects
i wouldn't be alive right now
so more positive than negative for me
started me off @ 60 4 years ago, and i'm now down to 5 and stable there
- tried to go lower, and flared up big time, so right now i'm stuck at 5

Thank you all, for the comments. I will be monitoring myself for the
side-effects. Weight gain bothers most as I have lost 40 pounds due to diet
program and exercise and certainly do not want to go back to the old fat me.
We are trying this drug for a week to see how I tolerate it.

Not everyone gains weight on prednisone. But its good to know its something
you will have to watch closely. And not let it get the upper hand.
It can also cause you to retain fluid and that makes it really hard to tell
what is or isn't weight gain at first.
