I saw my orthopod today to go over my MRI from last week.  Surprise,
surprise.  I have a fracture of my talus neck, the foot bone that sits
between the leg bone and the heel bone.  It didn't show on the xrays.
So, now I'm in a short leg cast, non-weight bearing, for at least a
month.  :-(  I knew this wasn't a simple sprain, but I really didn't
think it was fractured.  Needless to say, I won't be needing an ankle
brace just yet.  <sigh>

Oh Di, you just don't do things half-way, do you!  Sorry abut the fracture,
but hope it will heal quickly.  Be sure to follow instructions from the
doctor to give it the best chance possible.

Nice to have an answer but not so nice on the cast.  What an awkward
location for a break.
How about borrowing a 3 year old and some finger paint to pretty that cast
up for ya  :-)

First, thank you all for your well wishes.  Now that it's properly
diagnosed, I'm sure it will heal just fine.  Even now that my ankle is
finally immobilized in a cast (as much as I hate casts), the pain is
finally subsiding.  Before, it just wouldn't stop hurting, which is
partly why my orthopod ordered the MRI.  Amazing.

As to how I'm managing, well, I'm not so sure I am doing very well.
Today, was my first day back to work and, I couldn't make it through the
day.  I just up and left after lunch, got home, fell into bed, and slept
like I was in a coma for over two hours.

My hands hurt.  I thought I was over the pain of crutches, but the fact
is, I just wasn't moving very much.  As much as I try to not be up too
much at work, it's impossible.  God, my hands hurt.  And, I think it's
somehow aggravating the Dupuytren's contracture of my left hand.  I've
had these nodules for a long time.  But now, I've clearly got distinct
tendon involvement, along with decreased ROM and some pain.  I am fairly
certain that another hand surgery is in the not too distant future. I
see my RD on tuesday, and he's just gonna look at me, and shake his
head.  I just know it.  Needless to say, I'm depressed.  Very depressed.

So is my Zuki.  She hangs around the house and mopes.  Every once in a
while, she'll walk down to the end of the entry walk, turn around and
look at me, and mope back.  I cannot walk her.  She has the run of the
yard, which is good, but she just LOVES her walks.  It totally makes her
day.  My friend is coming over tomorrow evening to walk her, but I think
it's gonna rain, and she'll change her mind.  I give Zuki lots of
Greenies and other treats.  Things that give her some instant
gratification.  But it's been three weeks already, and it's going to be
at least another three weeks.  I just want to cry for her.

<sigh>  I think I need to get drunk.  I don't know what I need.  :-(
Well Diane, I imagine some of your old councilor stuff kicking in here.

So sorry for you, kiddo.  I know that many of us here have been through
similar stuff and all of us ache for you.  Hang in there, Hon.  You're in
our prayers.

thanks, DeeTee.  I'm getting by OK.  Crutches suck.  As a matter of
fact, I wrote an article about my broken ankle on my new blogsite, Dusty
Doggie (link below).  Warning to those who may be of a politically
right-leaning mind.  I'm not, so my political writings may not coincide
with your thinking.  However, my broken ankle article is apolitical, and
shouldn't offend anyone.  :-)

Well that at least explains a lot.

Xrays on fresh breaks seem to be notoriously unreliable.

Wish I could make it better sooner.

glad the fracture got found and you are now on the healing route. heal
quickly and try not to go too totally nuts with that cast.   Got my fingers
crossed for you!
