Hi,
I recently had hip replacement surgery (last Tuesday) and was
wanting some advice as to whether I can immediately use a NuStep TRS
4000 or if I need to wait a little longer before using one?  Can anyone
with experience out there tell me when to start?, how long to use it
for to start with?, and at what level (1-10) to
begin with?  I arrived home from the hospital this last Friday and have
been only doing home exercises up to now.  Our local YMCA has one along
with a recumbent bike which I used several weeks prior to my surgery.
Thanks for any and all advice.  Dana

What did the doctor tell you you could do? And weren't
you assigned at PT? I would ask the surgeon. Don't want
to have to go through that again. My knee replacement
required I wait 3 months before I could go back to
dancing. But that was a knee. I have a dance friend how
just had a hip done and the surgeon has a new method
for replacement that does not destroy the socket. He
had no restrictions including bending which is not
normal for most hip surgeries.
Call your surgeon.

Thanks Duckie for the advice.  I have had a knee and this is my second
hip.  On the knee, I had to go to physical therapy which was torture.
On my previous hip, I did all the exercises given to us in  the
physical therapy sessions we had at the hospital.  On my previous hip
surgery, I simply did the exercises on my own at home and it turned out
fine with no problems.  I did not use the NuStep on my previous two
surgeries.  This is a great piece of equipment for physical therapy and
cardiovascular exercise, but unfortunately not all physical therapists
have this piece of equipment and not everybody has access to a health
club with one.  I will check with my physical therapist and/or doctor
tomorrow.  Thanks, Dana
