Well sometimes predi is your friend!  Things seem to have calmed down
with my predi pulse; now I am down to 5 mg of  predi  we will see what
happens when I go to 0.  My infusion is fast approaching and they
moved me up a few days so I am keeping my fingers crossed.  Monster,
monster go away!  Just curious does predi seem to make hot flashes
worse?  Seems to me it does.

Took my 78 year old mother on the Rogue for 5 days of camping.  She
absolutely loved it and wants to buy a tent; problem is she has a hard
time finding people in her age group who still camp!!!  Everyone was
absolutely amazed she did hikes, climbed up to steep waterfalls, did
some very rocky terrain (ask Duckie) ....she is part mountain goat.
We did the middle chute at rainie which has a huge drop, her eyes were
big, but we had a great bouncy run. (much better than our fish ladder
run Duckie).  The fire they just had doesn't look bad and did some
nice under burning..... overall I would say it was a net gain for the
ecosystem.

Had a new crown put on my tooth today, I have one of those new Cerec
crowns.  It is all computerized and takes only one visit the tooth is
digitized and milled during the same visit.  Looks great and it wasn't
as much trauma as I feared.  Too bad they can't make them cheaper.

Hope everyone is doing well (including Rachel).  Don't forget the
folks in the SE they could use all your prayers, thoughts, and any
extra resources you might have.  Red Cross seems to be getting
extremely high marks from nearly everyone especially the evacuees.
Louisiana and Mississippi have a unique opportunity to restore some of
their wet lands I sure hope they take that into serious consideration.
They need more than just levies, wet lands can really absorb the punch
of storm surges and flooding.  New Orleans will continue to subside is
inevitable.  -- MZ

Wow. May we all grow up to be the wonderful old ladies.
Yours and mine would get along fine.
Glad the wrists are settling down.

Mary,
In BC we have a group of trefoil guilder's who camp regularly together.
They hike, camp etc according to their level of activity.  Some might camp
but stay at the base camp and not hike for example.

The trefoil guilder's are the "older" for lack of a better world girl
guides.  Many have been leaders for years, some have never been in guiding.
Your mom might find a group like that in Oregon - I would suggest she try
girl scouts of canada if it is something she really might be interested.  I
know here these are a wonderful group of ladies - used to belong myself
although was not with the active group since that was when the RA was at its
worse.  I still camp with the Pathfinders a couple of times a year but don't
do the hiking stuff anymore.

Glad the prednisone has calmed things down.  That is keeping me stable right
now.  Hi doses give me hot flashes without the menopause.

Hopefully the next infusion will chase this away.

I am very very envious of those hikers. Before I got RA, age 45, I used
look forward to a retirement hiking the hills. RA put a stop to that !

I am glad the pred is working for you. Could the pred be making your blood
sugars go up and that causing the hot flashing feeling. Just a thought.

Good thoughts coming your way too.

Prednisone will give me hot flashes and night sweats even without menopause
type help.  Just part of the price I pay I guess.

Every time I hear them talk about the wetlands and the related problems with
New Orleans I think of you.  We were pleased and surprised on our travels
this summer.  The area around Eureka California looks so much better than it
did twenty years ago.  They may get the salt marshes back to normal yet.
Also Fairbanks Alaska.  When we used to live there, the river banks were
lined with junk cars.  Didn't see any of that this time.  Although it did
seem they were building awfully close to the river for good sense.

Hope you continue to feel better and manage to cut out the pred without too
much hassle.

great that the pred is beating back the monster.  Got everything crossed that
your infusion gets you back to baseline.

If my mom hadn't gotten that blasted PMR, we could get our moms in touch with
each other.  But she is *still* having problems with the leg muscles that
were greatly affected during the months the PMR was undiagnosed.

Hey, here's a thought.  Does your mom do any Elderhostel trips?  Some of them
are much more outdoors and activity oriented, in fact they have an activity
rating for each one to give you a guideline.  She might enjoy some of them
AND it might be a way to meet other more active people in her age group.  Or,
she could go on some of those trips the Nature Conservancy and the Sierra
Club sponsor where you help clean up an area - might be another way to meet
like minded people.  Or even just through joining the local chapters of the
same she might meet some folks.

I hope to still be camping when I'm her age - then again, if Mike's still
alive when I'm 78, he'll be 90 so I may be staying home with him  :)
