I am a 43 year old female and have always had great health for the most part.
Over the past month or so I have noticed a change though. Initially my legs
were very sore (both of them) hurting and throbbing as if I had walked cross
country. My husband rubs them constantly but I wake up each morning (if I was
able to sleep) with them hurting. About a week ago I noticed my arms feeling
the same way. As if I lifted weights for the first time ever and over did it.
They throb and when I lift somethingand the pain is very noticable. I find
myseld trying to not lift anything and I limit my walking because of the pain.
I have sat and drove myself crazy trying to think of what this may be.  I
have done nothing different in my daily routine that would have caused this.
I am an Executive Assistant so my work is done at a desk. This is really
bothering me and I hope for just a little guidance.  Please e-mail me at

Thank you

Sounds like intermittent claudication, which can be very serious. You
need to see a doctor. I am surprised you did not think to do that.

Am I missing something here?  I googled Tami T and see that she doesn't
have a posting history on ASA.  Again is there something I am missing
that would account for responses that seem less than welcoming and
friendly?  If there is a history of this woman posting that I am can't
find?  MedKB  (Medical knowledge base) doesn't sell products.

Just in case Tami was here needing support, info, and friendship and
was not here as a spammer:

Hello Tami,
Certainly take the advise of Jo and Rose.  There are a few things that
could present with these symptoms that range from electrolyte
embalance, hormonal imbalance and  more serious vascular issues.
Please let me know by email what you find out but do get it checked out
soon.

In my case, its just a bad case in inborn cynicism or skepticism.  I cannot
fathom that somewhere there is a 43 year old executive assistant who can
find Usenet (OK google does make it easier than it used to be) who would
post potentially very serious medical symptoms online along with a valid
email address asking for diagnosis by a bunch of strangers.

I really wish I did have more faith in people.

Jo,
I didn't have a diagnosis when I first came to this group.  I can
remember many times over the years when people have come to ASA looking
for info for family members or friends. Welcome and you need to see and
doctor is my usual response with the welcome being the imperative.

Also, fear is so often the motivation for people searching for answers
on the internet.  Is that wise?  Of course not.  It is, however, not
uncommon.

It sure won't hurt me to find someone is actually setting me up to
push products.  It might however, hurt a person who may need this
group, if they are met with initial distrust. I guess I would rather
err on the side of kindness.

I apologise too. I am touched by the same cynicism that Jo has. If I
offended anyone I am sorry. My thought was that if the individual was
concerned she would have sought advice from a medical professional.

At first read I thought of the IC because of the sedentary nature of
her job, the association of pain with walking, and the non
specificity of the pain.

Once again I apologise.

I would be interested to hear what the doctor says, if Tami feels like
coming back.

Might be one of the Rheumatic diseases or Fibromyalgia.  Rheumatic
diseases are caused by your immune system and there are over 100
different forms.   Fibromyalgia is often associated with sleep
problems.  Check with your Dr for tests, the Rheumatic diseases often
have signature anti-bodies and your Dr will also look for indications
of inflammation.  Good luck and keep us posted on how you make out. --

And, while you're waiting (hopefully not too long!) to see your doctor,
keep a diary of pain and symptoms (joint affected, degree of pain and
swelling, how long, and things you can't do as a result of the
pain/swelling). Bring a copy of this diary to your doctor.
