Got a scooter today

I got a shoprider qt4 today. We'd scraped together just enough money to
get me a qt3 (with the new seat) but I wasn't really comfortable with a
small three wheeler (a tip-over and not only will I break, I'll have
serious bleeding problems). We found a used qt4 in the local forsale
paper and it turns out it was purchased for a woman who died in surgery
before she could use it, just a couple of months ago. The seller (her
daughter) was great when I was asking questions about the scooter over
the phone and when she spoke about her worry over her mom tipping in a
3-wheeler I explained that that was my fear, too. So, I got a virtually
new scooter for less than retail so I'm happy I can move about some on
my own now. It's got the older less comfortable seat, but the borrowed
wheelchair my wife has been pushing me around in isn't very comfortable
either! The seller, after talking with me for a bit when we were picking
up the scooter, said her mom would be happy that it was going to me. I
hope so.

Now I have to wait until Mid-November and hope I get the grant for the
motorised wheelchair. I really like last years model of the ShopRider
Snappy, so hopefully there will still be some stock left by the time the
grant approval process finishes (assuming I get the grant). I'm just
hoping I don't fracture anything more in the mean time. The scooter is
FAR from ideal (and it's the smallest 4-wheeler shoprider makes) but
it's better than trying to move around on crutches and getting more and
more fractures from that. I still have to use crutches in the home
(which is where I'm getting the majority of my fractures it seems) so I
really can't wait for the wheelchair to be approved. Really can't wait...

At least now when I give my honours presentation next week I can roll up
to the podium, or at least next to the podium, under my own
power...kinda :-)

Cheers,

Ari

I'm going to die rather sooner than I'd like. I tried to protect my
neighbours from crime, and became the victim of it. Complications in
hospital following this resulted in a serious illness. I now need a bone
marrow transplant. Many people around the world are waiting for a marrow
transplant, too. Please volunteer to be a marrow donor:

Medicare paid for my Pride Revo. Does anyone know how often Medicare will
replace a scooter? I got mine last year so it obviously has a lot more life,
however, they don't live for ever.

Good for you, Ari.  I remember worrying about the three wheeled
tricycles my kids rode.  It seemed awfully easy to upset them.
