You might also want to do a little research into how the
RedCross handle donations, and maybe donate to an
organisation that is more directly involved with those who
need the help the most instead.

This is a good website that rates charities and also links you directly
to their website so you can see exactly what they are doing with the
donations, both currently and in the plans. It also breaks it down so
you know how much they spend on the program vs administrative costs.
