Adelle,

Am wondering how your mom is doing and whether or not she is home from
the hospital?   Have they been able to sort things out with her yet and
give her a diagnosis?

Also, how are YOU doing?

Thinking of you all!

Thanks for asking. Mom is home. Same song as last time. CT scan shows
nothing. They got her stabilized and discharged her. Doc says it's an
insurance thing. They just won't keep her inpatient to do the investigating.

Doc has no idea what is happening. Says her blood work is not so obvious as
to indicate pancreatitis. But the symptoms are textbook. The are sending her
to a Gastroenterologist to see what is up.

My sister and I just don't get it. With the very same symptoms, the very
same doc diagnosed my sister with gall stones (Looked like a duck, walked
like a duck...). After the surgery, episodes never occurred again. My
doctor, same symptoms, nothing on CT scan or ultrasound - gall stones. Took
out the gallbladder, never another attack. But we fit the profile of forty,
female and fat. Mom is now 71. Not quite the same profile. So now it's round
four or five on this. Frustrated, disgusted and resigned, all at the same
time. (sigh)

Anyway - It's been a busy summer, as one or both of the kids were home for
most of it. Got one last fling of activities this weekend and then school
starts up Wednesday. Ian is starting third grade and Becca is a freshman in
high school. She's on the JV-B girls soccer team.

Plaquenil is working pretty well. Hadn't needed/taken any codeine in 6 weeks
or so. Even 'gardened' a little. Saw the RD yesterday and he suggested
taking the Relafen once a day or less. First night I tried it and my hips
woke me up after about 5 hours sleep. Couldn't really get comfy again.
Walked around the Museum of Science today then came home and made dinner -
and it's a codeine evening.

Little steps, little steps.

Tomorrow is our 17th anniversary. Doug and I realized neither of us had even
gone out to get a card. We each get easily distracted. Neighbors are having
a pool party. We will celebrate another time.

Thanks again for asking!
