Back a few days earlier than I planned. Was going down to beach yesterday
and took a fall, heard a crack then the pain. People in a cottage down the
road were there and put me in their van and off to emerg. ER Doc said
r-rays shows clean break in the ankle but also some shattering. Thoughts
I'd see an Ortho but no he informed me that all three ortho Surgeons were
off over the weekend and only major cases were to be referred to the nearest
Trauma Center. I was told to go in Mon evening after 7pm when one surgeon
will be back in the hosp. In the mean time I'll just enjoy the
morphine.........

Awwwww, Bruce, I'm so sorry to hear this! Praying that the pain is
controllable and that you can just rest until the orthopods can get to
you. Will you need surgery or will they be able to take care of it by
casting it? Healing prayers and hugs to you!

break.

So sorry, Bruce. Surely hope you can keep the pain away until the surgeon
is back and you can get something done.

Ooooh my it hurts to even read your words and it could of happened to any of
us. May your doctor have his/her best day when they finally get to you.
Please eat or use whatever keeps your insides moving. I have a friend that
really got in trouble being locked up from morphine. It is kind of like
prednisone. There can be a price for using it.

Hi Bruce,
I don't know you but I agree with Harv, it hurts to even just read your
words.
I can't imagine what that must feel like.
I hope that it can be treated with a cast, and that you can make a full
recovery.

Got a call from my pcp last night, he was in delivering a baby and saw the
written radiology report. He went to the library and pulled the pics. He
said the upper ankle break is clean and a cast would do it but the lower
break has a lot of shattered bone and will require quite a bit of hardware.
He was great though, told me that if the Ortho wants to operate Monday night
have him paged and he will assist in the surgery.
And I am enduring no pain before it's time. I believe we have pain
management for a reason!!!

In that case leave 8 hours of no solid foods in you
before you see that ortho. Jello, broth, apple juice...
clear liquids and Vodka doesn't count. That was on my
last instructions before surgery. Still makes me laugh.
Don't want him to have an excuse not to operate if it
is needed.

For what its worth, when Charlie smashed his heal, they didn't operate on it
for almost a week. They like things to settle down and for some of the
swelling and bruising to resolve first it it can.
Wishes for a good surgeon having his best day. And a kind recovery.

Bruce, good for your PCP; he's one to keep. I agree with you about the
pain. That's what pain medicine is for and that's what I will use it for
any time needed!

So sorry about the break and the lost vacation time. I hope your surgeon
does all the right things and gets a good night's sleep before getting you
all fixed up.

Got a call to emerg at 1pm. Ortho Surgeon met me there had already seen the
pictures. I had eaten so nothing more until the surgery at 7pm. he said it
should take 1.5-2 hrs there's a real mess to clean up and put back together.
I have elected to have a regional anaesthesia. No hang over and much
quicker recovery time.
Catch you all in a few days when I'm home.
Cheers,
Bruce

Bruce, I haven't gotten myself to typing a response before, but I have been
thinking of you and hoping the morphine would get you through the weekend!
Now I've got everything crossed that the surgery went well and you will be
walking around again in a few months. Update us when you can, ok?
