Hi,
I'm new to this group. I'm a female in my 40's. I suffer from severe
arthritis in both shoulders. My right is my worst. I've had cortisone
treatments twice in both shoulders (once radiologically guided). I've
also had both cleaned out arthroscopically. I am now to the point of
looking at having my cartilage replaced. My dr has started the process
to get it done. Has anyone out there had this? I'm wondering about
recouperative time/process. My previous arthroscopes took about 6 - 8
wks to recover.
Thanks!

Hi Cora,
Haven't had that done, but would *think* it might be similar recovery
time to your previous (adding maybe 4 weeks depending on the incision).
Have you asked your doctor, I'd be thinking if s/he has done this
before, they may have a better idea.
Hoping that you are "up and about" soonest, and feeling better than
ever.
Let us know how it goes, huh? I'd never heard of cartilage
replacement, I always thought they just took out the old, then the
person suffered. Of course, I think I've been living with my head in
the sand for quite some time.

Cora, is this going to be a partial or total shoulder replacement???
That's what it sounds like you might be talking about. Shoulder
surgeries often can take a fair amount of recovery and it often is
longer than for other types of surgery. That being said, a lot will
also depend on whether this is an arthroscopic type of surgery or if it
is a more invasive surgery invoving replacing or other types of stuff.
I would imagine that the more invasive and the more that is done, the
longer the recovery will be.
Good luck to you with it all!
