Stretching them might help. Before you get up in the morning, (bring a long
towel to bed night before). Put this towel around the ball of your foot
and pull with knees bent. Pull on both sides of the towel, while doing so,
stretch your foot down with the toes and up with the toes and pull on the
towel NOT hard just enough you can tell. Do this for 10 seconds ( count a
one and two ) about 3 times with each foot.
Then later in the day or when ever, do it again while setting in a chair
with your feet elevated on the recliner foot rest, if no recliner do the
couch.
Another stretch is standing on a step with the tips of your toes or just
inside the toes. Tip up and then drop the foot down below the step and
stretch. Do this for 3 sessions and count the stretches for 10. I am just
had a few therapy sessions on PT for this.
Plus podiatrist fit me with inserts, NOT the kind from the store. You have
to be fitted and Medicare I believe pays for this, but not sure...
Now this is MY OPINION maybe you might want to see the podiatrist and or
call a PT department and make sure it is facitis pain first...
good luck

Ice, stretching, ice, ice, rest, and orthotics. When none of those helped
we had to stop the stretching altogether and let it rest completely with
ice, ice, ice. Eventually it took 3 cortisone shots to settle it down.
This first worked for short time, second a couple of months and the 3rd
almost for good. I still have problems if I don't wear my runners and
orthotics all the time (which of coure in the summer I have a tendency not
to do so it is flaring right now.)
Hope that hurts - I sympathize. Don't forget shoes on even in the house

Orthodics, Orthodics and Stretching...did I mention Orthodics????
Worked WONDERS for me, both to relieve pain and repair the damage.
Good luck.

Kelly,
Did they give you shots in the heels for that?
My RD is telling me that he won't do shots there.
My heels are so tender, and I have Achilles tendonitiis so bad in both
feet/legs, as well as ever worsening pain in the balls of both feet (at
the base of the toes).
I am at my wits end.
It's hard to do those exercise listed above when the balls of your feet
also hurt.
Two weekends ago, I scored a free Dr. Scholls foot massager with
massage vibration. It helps a little bit for about half an hour.
I wonder why my RD won't help me out with shots. I have had them
everywhere else???
I wish it would go away, NOW

Hi Charlene,
Sorry, haven't been around much this week. My one was in the bottom of the
heel and one in the arch area and the second sort of in between. I know
this is an area that is hard to inject and definitely they own't do the
achilles tendon as it will be made worse and can rupture the tendon very
easily. That could be why he doesn't want to do it. I definitely was not
allowed injections in that part of the heel - for that I did a lot of physio
and heel lifts. For the achilles tendonitis try heel lifts. You might have
to experiment to get the right high pad - even an eighth of an inch made a
difference. Ice is really important - I also used the frozen water bottle
or frozen cucumber and rolled it back and forth. I will say it took me a
long time for both and took some rest and always wearing runners and
orthotics even in the house. We have been at wedding stuff for the last two
days and even though I had on good flat sandals my fasciitis pain is back
and the achilles tendon is swollen. Will take constant runners and ice to
get it back under control.

Janice,
I ended up having to get mine injected to get them to finally settle
down, but stretching and icing were definitely of some help. To ice,
fill a water bottle with water and put in freezer and let it freeze.
Then take it out and put on floor and roll your foot over it. This
helps to both ice it and massage it a bit. Good luck to you, sure hope
you find some relief soon!
