I woke up thinking about Melinda today. My guess is
that she is either there already or headed that way. I
listened to a man in shock last night tell of his house
filling with water, taking them all to the attic and
then it suddenly splitting in two. He had hold of his
grandchildren and his wife but couldn't hold them all
and his wife made him let go of her and promise to keep
the children safe. The news reporter broke down and
managed to choke out 'what was her name'. Maybe they
can find....
And another photographer last night sounded beaten down
by what he had seen.
I just knew Melinda needed to be there.
Rambling here but thought a group hug and candle
lighting might be in order. Let's say 6pm tonight. And
if you just use your 6pm that will mean candles will be
lit at regular intervals this evening.

Count me in, Duckie. I've been saying prayers for everyone down there.

I have been thinking the same and saying a prayer for her wherever she is.
My brother lived there for 6 years and has many many friends still in
N'awlins. The ones that stayed said the destruction is incredible and so
sad. Many he can't even get in touch with. More bad news today so that
makes it worse too.
Candles being lit at 6:00 - even if she isn't there she is going to need all
our prayers because you can bet she isn't well if she isn't there or is
fighting herself to get there.

I noticed that most of the male reporters on the weather channel
haven't shaved and all look just exhausted. It's almost too much to
take in. Will light a candle at 6PM EDT.

I just lit mine a tad early: one for Melinda; one for
the residents; and one for all the EMT, firemen and
policemen.

i've heard from m. i hope it's ok with her that i let you know. she
wrote to recommend a vacuum, so i know she's reading us! she sounds
wonderful and is taking care of herself; she got the call to go south,
but is not going. she sounds so good and i'm glad for her. i hope
she'll chime in some time soon, but what matters is that she's okay and
doing what she needs to do to take care of herself.

Hello Caroline-
I am here in santa cruz, just having returned from a 9000 mile driving
trip that lasted for the whole summer. I am probably through with
disater work unless there is electricity to keep my enbrel cold. I
would love to join you, though, for prayers.
I am actually not even lurking much having spent a summer without
computer, TV, etc. but I will check in every few weeks. Hope all is
well with you and your family.

I am so glad to see a post from you. I tried calling your practice earlier
this summer and they didn't return the call. I have been very worried about
you.
Please update us on the kids and grandkids when you have a chance. And let
us know how you are doing after such a difficult year.

Nann Bell - 31 Aug 2005 05:31 GMT
It's well past 6 pm now, closer to midnight, but the folks in the Gulf Coast
area haven't been out of my thoughts all day. I have a number of cousins and
some other relatives in the Baton Rouge/ New Orleans/ Hammond/ etc. area as
well as an elderly aunt and uncle in Hattiesburg. We're waiting for them to
be able to get some word out. I'm sure they all had the sense to evacuate,
but there are a few doctors in the group who probably stayed behind to help
afterwards. All have sturdy houses, but with these floodwaters, the damage
may be great. And what did my one cousin do with her horses that she loves
so much........

the NO area ones evacuated over the weekend and are fine physically. Their
house is/was near the levee break though so they fear it may be gone. They
are both doctors and with the hospitals shutting down, who knows when they'll
be working again.
Baton Rouge doesn't seem to have been hit much, so we haven't been worrying
too much about the folks there. Some others who evacuated to Hammond are
fine there, so we assume the Hammond contingent is also. I worry about my 93
year old aunt though - I'm sure the facility she lives in has no power.
sigh....... it's handy having them living so close together when we want to
visit, but worrisome in the midst of something like this! But... I've had a
sense that all are ok throughout all of this.

The places my mom was had backup generators. And getting fuel to those will
be a priority

SInce Alabama was affected, I wonder if Amy (Lake Goddess) and family
are OK. Has she been in contact with any one? Or am I way out

Since we didn't have much damage in Montgomery and Amy lives north of here,
I don't think they would have been affected.
