i met me new rheumy today, thanks to alison's referral. when's the last
time you had an hour and fifteen minute rheumy appt?? she was great. as
alison said, she doesn't settle for any infammation. she's changing my
remicade from every 8 weeks to every six. the other change is that she
took me off leukavorin. she said it's not necessary on arava. is anyone
else taking leukovorin (sp??) on arava? she referred me to a podiatrist
to try to get my left foot organized. she also sees her remicade
patients a few days prior to their infusion to check for infection,
etc.
i was very impressed and felt in good hands.

Diane, sounds as if your moving is a very good thing for your arthritis
problems. Wonderful to find a doctor like that.

so happy to hear the appt went well... and that you liked her. what's going
on with your foot specifically?

alison, my left foot has always been my biggest problem. it has a lot
of damage, all over. ankle, foot, everywhere. it's very deformed.
joints, ligaments, tendons, etc--all are involved and a mess. ankle is
partly auto-fused. as a result of all this, i tend to walk on the outer
edge of that foot. the inner edge never even touches the ground. over
time, this has caused shin splints and other problems. my virginia
rheumy wanted me to have surgery. dr z isn't sure that wouldn't make
things worse. we'll start with orthotics to see if i can walk any
better that way. i've always had pain in that foot, but with this move,
it's really taken off. especially at night, i'm in agony. i think it's
cramping up or something. sticking it under the whirlpool jets before
bed seems to help. i'm having a lot of trouble walking and am glad to
discover the scooters at target/grocery store etc!
more than you ever wanted to know!

I'm not taking that with Arava - what was it for? Did
not realize you were on the same protocol as I was - R+
A. Course I had the Rituxan this summer and I still eat
4 mg of pred a day. sigh
Give Alison a gold star. She[the RD] is a keeper.

sounds like you have a keeper for sure there, Diane! great news.
I actually have had initial RD appointments go for that long. Certainly the
last 3 initial appointments have, the others were long ago and I just don't
remember enough to say on them. It's a pain breaking in new RDs but it
sounds like you are off to a good start with this one! The important part
though is that last line of yours.
Got everything crossed for help from the podiatrist.

Yay, Diane!!! Am thrilled to hear that you found yourself such a good
RD right away! Good for you. Hope you are equally as successful in
finding a good PCP and GI doc to oversee your pancratic cyst thingy.

Hi Diane,
I am glad that you have a new RD as well. I am on my third and I love
him, he is a keeper!
I am on leucovorin, but not Arava. I am on Enbrel, not Remicade, lol.
To me, the trust and respect that I feel for my newest (lol) RD,
reduces my stress level and makes me feel that I am getting the best
care possible.
I hope that it is the same for you.
I also hope that you can get some relief in your feet,
Charlene
