I came home from a six day hospital stay today more confused than ever.
Went in thru ER with pain and vomiting, something similar to GB attack
but my gall bladder has been gone for a few years. Ultra sound showed
an enlarged and inflamed liver. Then a MRCP (like a MRI) today and I
didn't get the results. They sent me home today so I wasn't stuck there
for the weekend and I have to call the gastro doc on Monday for further
testing, ie an endoscopy to see why I was vomiting coffee grounds (old
blood).
Anyone familiar with liver stuff? I am on lovastatin and am blaming it
on that but although they stopped it, they are not saying it caused it.
They also stopped my Plaquenil so I am expecting a flare any day now.
Sorry to be so negative but I'm one weak puppy from being in bed all
week.

Don't worry about it. Its just your body's way of saying you need a break.
Just don't try to do too much at one time. Sitting up more and walking
around the house a bit may be plenty to do for now.
Don't know much about the liver stuff. I'm sorry they have to leave you to
worry without test results for the weekend. And I hope the results are good
and everything is treatable.

Oh, wow, Ann, that all sounds so terrible! Am so sorry you have been
having such a rough time of it and that you still don't have any
definitive answers!!! Please, please just rest and take good care of
yourself. Sending along healing thoughts and prayers and hope the test
results aren't anything to be too worried about! Keep us posted as to
how you are doing!
Hugs!

((((((((((((Ann))))))))))))) treat yourself well this weekend, you deserve
it and I really don't think you sound negative, especially considering the
week you've had!
Statins can have liver side effects, though that sounds like a very drastic
reaction. See what else they come up with. There are many things that can
cause an inflammed liver and it sounds like they are doing the right things
to nail it down. Rest for now and see what the GI guy says Monday.

Ann, don't know too much about the liver, but since I am on a statin drug, I
take Milk Thistle regularly and my liver function is always normal. I hope
you can rest over the weekend and not worry about test results. All the
news may be good. Let's pray so.

Thanks everyone. I got a call today that the final blood panel came
back negative for Hepatitis A so I definitely do not have any of the
ones with letters. They are calling it acute hepatitis at this point
and it will go away. Meanwhile have to stay off the Lovastatin and also
the Plaquenil. i will definitely ask him about milk thistle when i see
him next week.

When you ask your doc, if you get a blank look try asking about silymarin.
Same thing but that is the name they use in the studies. My doctor who
really needs to get her head out of the books once in a while knew all about
silymarin but had never heard of milk thistle. (Its been used for its
beneficial effect on the liver since at least the time of the Roman Empire)

Thanks Jo. I wrote this down in my "things to ask about" list so I
won't forget it.
