My nephew was just given a script for this drug by his doctor - any good or
bad things to say about it from the group?

Thanks...

I've been taking 3 x 50mg of DF daily for years now, and have had no side
effects whatsoever. I'd tried Arthrotec before that, and was quite nauseous,
so changed to DF.

So only good reports from me. Your nephew can only try it and see how he
gets on, and go back to his doctor if he's not happy with it.

I was on Arthrotec (2 x 50mg) for about 2 months after Bextra was taken
off the market.

Saw my RD today and she took me off of the Arthrotec, due to the amount
of gas it was causing me.  She put me on 2 x 75mg Diclofenac
Sodium/Voltaren to see how that works.

If the Diclofenac Sodium/Voltaren does not work, I'm off to Enbrel land.

I have to go and have a bunch of scans done tomorrow to determine if I
have Sacroiliitus or perhaps even Ankylosing Spondylitis.  I had an
isotope uptake bone scan done a few years ago, and my sacroiliac joints
lit up like a christmas tree.

I am a little confused.  The label on my Arthrotec 75 says it is 75 mg
diclofenac sodium with 200 mcg misoprostal which is supposed to help
the stomach.  I take it twice a day.  But then I am on Nexium and
Gaviscon, so maybe it doesn't work by itself good enough.  According
to my drug book, Voltanen is the same as Arthrotec without the stomach
protector.  I've been so used to calling my meds by their brand name,
I have trouble comparing them because the charts use the scientific
name.  Guess I'd better learn, huh?  Hope the Enbrel helps.

Loujean, the Dr. told me to stay on my Nexium along with the Arthrotec.  I
guess once you've had ulcers or stomach problems, they just want to take
extra care.  I occasionally take two Nexium a day when I can tell my stomach
is acting up where the ulcer was.

They are basically the same, but in my case the misoprostal in the
Arthrotec was giving me significant problems with gas.

Since I am already on 30mg of Prevacid twice a day, going it alone with
the Voltaren should not be an issue.

I may be wrong, but I think the reason the drs prescribe more than one
digestive protector is because they all work in different ways. Some
increase neutralizing juices in the stomach, others empty the stomach
faster, while others coast the lining of the stomach and intestines. when
they work together you have the best chance of decreasing problems.

I am on Nexium along with the Arthrotec, so don't know if it would
work alone.  My gastroenterologist wants me to stay on the Nexium, so
will ask the rheumy when I go in September for 3 month check.

My rheumy was the one who had me stay on Nexium with Arthrotec.

Also known by the brand name Voltaren, I've taken it for several years now,
with no problems and great success. My best to your nephew.
