Any of you ever get the feeling like something is moving in your
foot/feet when you walk? Like maybe bones are rubbing together or like
bones are shifting whan you are walking---especially on the whole outer
side of the bottom of your foot/feet? I have this problem off and on,
and the podiatrist and the RD said it can be a common problem and that
many who have that feeling often are having the beginnings of fallen
arches. How do you tell if your arches are falling? The podiatrist
recommended just really good supportive shoes with a good arch support
such as New Balance. New Balance seems to be the shoes that most of the
podiatrists, orthopedic docs, and even the lung docs, cardiologists, and
the RD's recommend. I do buy New Balance, but find that I can only
wear certain styles while other styles of theirs don't work well for me,
but then, I have a very wide foot and need a high toe box and a the
wider last that they offer. Hmmmm.......just curious as to some of the
other foot problems others have here and what they do about it, etc.

Donna,
This may be a weird response, but try shopping in the men's section!
I have wide feet and found a great pair of plain oxfords in the men's
sizes at Sears quite a few years ago. I could buy a new pair and put
them on... I now wear SAS, but found if I use an insert with the heel
cup, but put it under the sole of the SAS (their soles are removable,
so they can be washed, at least in most styles). A physical therapist
told me about this. I had a heel spur and was using the cupped
insert, but the sides were irritating my heel. After I changed them
to the way he said, my heels healed up quite nicely.
Worth a try, anyhow. Hugs and best wishes.

donna, things have "moved" in my left foot for years. that foot is a
mess. things crackle, pop, slide, twitch etc. it's not the arch on my
foot. the arch is about a foot high because the foot is so deformed.
back to packing. i am tired!!

Oh man, yes!!! It sometimes feels like things are grinding, moving and
popping. What I have all the time are these:
Pain at the base of the toes, on the ball of the foot. It feels like
there is a good sized rock underneath, at the ball of my foot. IT used
to be just under the big toe joint, but now it goes across the whole
ball.
Pain in both heels. RD says that it's plantar's fasciitis, but I don't
care what the name of it is, some days it just kills me.
Stabbing pain almost in the arch. This one comes and goes, but it feels
like I am stepping on a knife sometimes.
My RD did rec. arch supports. I first bought some Dr. Scholl thingys,
an arch support with padding for the balls and the heels (they seemed
to address most of my problems, right?). My RD said they were crappy,
lol. I purchased some harder, higher arch supports and those have
helped, but not as much as I had hoped they would.
None of this helped probably, but there it is

Did the podiatrist mention inserts?? Sometimes that helps too.
I am using lidoderm patches on my feet right now, to see if it takes the
pain away. Was going to therapy for plantar faciitis, which makes for pain
itself. Well NOW they think that is not all and art too is there. So stop
PT and try these.
some fun.
I wear New Balance 600 right now but a bigger shoe might be your answer and
using men's is a good idea too. Even the Wide widths for woman are still
not wide enough for most art sufferers.
I prefer another number of NEW Balance but the darn company keeps stopping
some numbers and bringing new ones out. Makes us confused and aren't we
confused enough??? LOL
good luck

I know what you are feeling. I can actually feel the bones move and crack
when I walk .I have so many feet problems that I feel sometimes Id be better
off without them. I know I shouldn't even think or say that because I have
a horror of loosing my feet. I have neuropathy and they burn and are numb
all the time. I also have very severe OA in them and my rumy says it is one
of the worse cases he has ever seen. If I had all the money that I have
spent trying different shoes and different things advertised on TV or things
others have told me about, I would be a rich woman and would need a tractor
trailer to put it all in.
I just eat pain pills and stay off my feet as much as possible.I try to get
buggies at the groc store, walmart and other places that have them. if no
buggiesare available, I just cant go there. I hope you can get some relief
Donna.

Hi Janers!
I actually already do buy a mans wide width shoe as I find them to fit
much better than the womens even when they are supposed to be the same
width. So far, I have been pretty lucky with New Balance as I have
found a style that seems to work really well for me and each year they
change the number of that style by 1. Ex: If it were style 779, then
the following year it is 780 and so on. I also get a little catalog
from the new balance store and watch for their sales. I can also can
only wear their styles that have a #2 last as the #1 last is too narrow
for me. Thankfully in several shoe catalogs they list not only the style
numbers of the shoes, but also the last number and the amount of
cushioning---that really helps me a lot in deciding what to buy.
Even with super comfortable shoes, though, I still seem to get the
sensation from time to time that bones are shifting and/or rubbing when
I walk---very strange and very painful.
How do the pain patches seem to be working for you? Do you put them on
your ankle or on the top of your feet or what?
Let us know how things work out for you. I certainly would be
interested.

New Balance 587 are the woman's shoe which apparently they don't change.
The last is the same year after year and it accomodates the orthotics
nicely. My occupational therapist and the running shoe store specialist
have recommended this too me. They have a good arch support but I do need
orthotics as well. Without my orthotics the plantar fascia flares up
quickly and the nodules come back on the achilles tendon. These do have a
wide foot box and high toe box by the way. I take the widest in a size 7
and they are perfect - but I agree not all of their shoes fit the same.
