Jo Firey - 06 Aug 2005 20:40 GMT I hate contact paper too. There are a couple of non-stick shelf papers out there. And some plastic matting stuff made by Rubbermaid that last forever and are easy to install. I don't use shelf paper in dish cupboards and after thirty years those cabinets still look good inside. And I have a piece of linoleum cut to fit under the sink. I'm also very partial to turntables and pull out shelves.

At least that way it is easy to change when it gets a bit worn. I have also used in the past, the heavy brown paper from grocery bags, that I have cut to measure for some cupboards. The brown paper from grocery saks is quite absorbant, so I usually use that in my cabinets that have the spices and oils and such. Like Jo, I use some turntables and other means of wire racks and such. Have also used rolls of just plain white paper that you can buy from most home office stores. You can cut to measure for any size cupboard, it is easy to change, easy to size, etc. I do have a friend who actually used linoleum in all of her cupboards---she said it made it so much easier for her to just wipe out the cupboards when she was doing her cleaning. Another friend of mine just paints the bottoms of her cupboards with something that is easily wiped clean and can redo when it starts to show wear and tear. I have also used in some cupboards and closets, non-stick shelf paper that is cedar scented to help keep down on any bugs---this I usually use in coat closet shelves or other types of storage shelves that might attrack bugs such as below sinks, in basements, laundry area's, etc. Course I live in an apartment that seems to be home to many, many spiders! ick.....I do all I can to keep them spiders from setting up home in my place!
Good luck to you Diane!!!

rojakort - 07 Aug 2005 04:29 GMT I use the dollar store rolls of stuff. They come in all colors, wally mart has them but dollar store is cheaper.
Made from a rubber type substance. In rolls and found in the area of contact paper. It is easy to cut and easy to remove if it gets dirty or what not. I lined our cupboard with them, makes them quieter when putting in glasses and dishes...
Looks like little holes in the material...Dang can't think of what you call it but you will see it and know what I mean.

Carole - 07 Aug 2005 08:47 GMT > I use the dollar store rolls of stuff. They come in all colors, wally mart > has them but dollar store is cheaper. My new rule of thumb is to go to the dollar store first for everything. I have found my favorite shower gel ($3.49 in Walgreens), my face soap ($2.49 in Walgreens), toothpaste ($2.59 in Walgreens), some Revlon and Aziza products and a host of other things all for $1. So now it's there first and then if they don't have it, then I'll go to Walmart or other places :) And if I need giftbags, I never get them anywhere but at the dollar store :-)
Carole :) who LOVES a bargain :)
vickie b. - 07 Aug 2005 12:48 GMT I do use contact paper under the sink. That way if the sink drips under there, you only have to remove the contact paper and voile! no stains!
Good luck!

Navy1 - 07 Aug 2005 16:25 GMT I wasn't aware they had so many things like that. I usually think of the stuff they carry as "el cheapo" stuff. I will have to keep it in mind. Loujean (I love a bargain, too, since I'm now retired and have to watch the pennies).

Charlie has become quite the dollar store fan. Yes they do carry a lot of "el cheapo" stuff. But plenty of it is stuff you still need and would otherwise pay two or three times as much for somewhere else. We buy washcloths and reading glasses there. A few days ago he came home with safety pins. We were either out or has finally misplaced the last package after 20 years.

Carole - 07 Aug 2005 16:54 GMT Me too, Loujean! I'm on company disability now and will start SSDI soon, so I definitely have to watch pennies. And yes, there are some really good dollar stores! We have one called Dollar Tree and it's the best. When I lived in NYC we had one and then the management company raised their rent to twice what they were paying and they closed it down. I was so annoyed as I loved that store. And I was glad that the store stayed vacant for over a year - served the management company right for being greedy.
When I moved out to Washington, I was so happy to find a Dollar Tree one exit up from where I live :-) And I go there all the time for stuff as they have just about everything. So see if you have one near you :)

I'm not sure what kind the one near here is called or if it is still there; all our good stores have moved out to the developing area northeast of here about five to ten miles. It would have been awfully handy if I were still working, but the traffic out there is one of the things, IMHO, that caused my seizures in January. I've not had a reoccurrence and resumed driving a couple of weeks ago.

I found and a lot of RV folks use a product bought at Family dollar store. IT is called AWESOME and it takes out stains you will never believe. It is a buck and comes in a spray bottle 12 ounces or more. I used it on carpet and zap, no more stain and this stain was there for a LONG time. It says it is safe for most all things. I didn't believe it, till I used it and cheap IS GOOD .

DiWitt - 08 Aug 2005 15:49 GMT I don't use any at all because the adhesive draws bugs here in Fl. If you live in an area with a lot of insects, I would forgo it.
