Dear Friends,

I am having a sharp pain on the right foot sole.  It feels like I'm
stepping onto the sharp side of a knife.  It hits right between the
ball of the foot and arch.  Any ideas?  I do have a rheumy appointment
on Friday.

TIA,

Vickie B.

My feet do that (unfortunately).  The doc's tested me for diabetes, as
it's in my family and that is a symptom (I describe it as walking on
broken glass, over the whole sole of the feet).

Hope that your RD can find an answer for you to relieve it.  You have
my utmost sympathy, let's hope you do not, as I have, get used to it.

Bone spur, tendonitis, etc. Is it in the middle, inside, or outside?
More towards the ball or more towards the heel?

You have my symnpathies: just found out yesterday that both of my feet
have multiple fractures. Explains part of the pain I've been in for the
last six months!

Cheers,

Ari

Ari, how are your feet being treated?  No wonder they have been hurting!

No treatment, and I can't take pain killers without severe constipation
which increases the risk of bleeding and infection for me.
Bisphosphonate has been suggested, but with my history of osteonecrosis
it's a BIG risk. Myeloma patients often get osteonecrosis of their
mandibles (jawbone) from that treatment to increase bone density, and
while I don't have myeloma my history of osteonecrosis is very worrying.
But I may not have much choice: my osteoporosis has become too severe,
and I may have fractured some of my vertebra on the weekend. I don't
know enough about this and possible treatments to suggest anything in a
timely manner yet. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Only to say that it may be time for a wheelchair for awhile.   I know, I
know,,, It is easy to say and hard to do.   A wheelchair is a life style
changing thing and one of those scooters in the house might be a good thing.
Good luck with it.

Vikie B.,
ME too!! I have ankylosing spondylitis and have been dealing with foot
pain for quite a while now....seems like forever.
I have heel pain (plantar's fasciitis, not fun), and also pain in the
balls of both feet (feels like there are small rocks under there).
Now I have a new pain, mostly in the left foot, in the arch...and
you've hit the nail on the head...it feels like I am stepping on a
knife.
I don't see the rheumy until the 15th.
I would be interested if anyone else has encountered this problem.

Vickie B and others that were saying about their foot.

Fallen Arches, torn arch or tendons.
I had a problem with mine when doing yard duty at the kids school. Lasted
for years. Had to have special insert made for shoes.

Love and hugs to all
Good thoughts coming your way too.

Well, I sam my rheumy today.  He said the pain was due to the tendon
and referred me to my podiatrist.  He said not to wait for treatment!
(And then I forgot to call for an appointment by the time that I
arrived home..  I do have to check my son's work schedule!)

Hope this helps!

(Yes, Squirrelly I have worn orthodics for many years.)

Vickie, hope your podiatrist will be able to take care of the problem for
you.

Vickie, it's the tendons, eh?
I wear arch supports to sort of take the pressure off the heels and the
balls. They don't really help all that much.
I, too, hope the podiatrist will be able to take care of you. Please
let us know how you make out.

I went to the podiatrist today.  He said it is in the nerves.  You
know, like carpel tunnel except in the foot.  He put me in a boot and
referred me to a neurologist for a nerve induction test!  I'll schedule
that later!

This is making sense, well sort of,

That is how my RA started out, pain in the feet felt like I was waking on
glass all the time. I finally was told to get orthodics, and that is where I
am now, they make it so hard to find shoes, am in the process of getting new
ones, which so far have not worked, I just tired a new pair of running shoes
to go for a walk without the orthodics, the ones I had made were out of
graphite, way way to hard. Anyway long story short, without the orthodics
the pressure is all on my big toes where there is a lot of damage, may just
try over the counter ones and see if that works, my podiatrist did tell me
to get Asics Gel 2100 GT it is suppose to have a lot of cushion for walking
and she was right, just not sure it is enough, when I don't wear the inserts
that seems to flare up my lower back.
It is an never ending cycle, I miss walking for exercise, I am thinking
about taking up water aerobics anyone ever try that for the arthritis?
Hope your feet get better soon it is no fun I KNOW

I've been in a hot water pool once a week since '99, and I love it.  When I
was really bad in the beginning,it was the only place I was able to walk
more than a short distance. And I still feel that it is the best place for
me to both get some exercise and keep my joints moving.  If I have to stay
away from the pool for some weeks, my body feels much more limber after 30
minutes in the hot water.
