Well, folks,
I went riding this morning. My mom couldn't come with me because the
girl who does our floors and bathrooms was here, so off I went. I got
in the car and it was as if the last six months hadn't been (as far as
driving!). So, I went and got it washed and waxed. Then I went to
get the oil changed. Six months sitting except for an occasional
Sunday isn't good for the engine. Had to have a couple of extra
things beyond the oil change, but I was more or less expecting that.
So, that will come out of the fuel budget I didn't use. Then I went
to the library and picked up a couple of books and a DVD that I had
ordered. Then to the bakery outlet where I got a cherry pie (one of
those single serving thingies). I'll skip the jelly on my PB & J at
noon and won't have desert. Then I went to Penney's to pick up my
mom's catalog. Then, home - took about 2 to 2-1/2 hours. My knee was
a little uncomfortable, but lying down with ice for a while made it,
as Emeril says, "Happy". I am free at last!

Sounds like you had a good day, Loujean :) And you're right about
retirement. I thought I was going to be bored when I got my disability,
but I'm at the pool every day swimming and tanning.
Carole :)

congratulations! enjoy your re-found freedom. I was reliant on my DH for
transportation for the 11 weeks my wrist was pinned (with one pin rubbing on
a spinal nerve - ouch!). I just about went nuts during that, so I well know
that you love being able to drive yourself again!

I can empathize with you as I wasn't very accepting the first two
months. Then I was able to accept it and things went a lot smoother
for the rest of the six months. I was quite nervous until I got
behind the wheel and then it all came back and I felt quite calm.
Thanks for the congratulations, Nann.

Congrats. I have to have transportation. I don't have to go anywhere,
I just have to have the means to do so if I wanted to. Being dependent
on someone else for transportation is rough. Glad you're back in the
saddle.

Charlie and I are like that. I just hate when I can't drive for a while.
He has to take my car keys if I can't drive for a day such as after some
outpatient surgical stuff, cause the drugs for that make you forget you
shouldn't do anything.
And its expensive to feel that way. We are both retired. We do not need
two cars. Neither of us goes anywhere all that often alone anyway, and
about the only thing that overlaps is doctor appointments. We could
schedule around that. But when we got "my" jeep, his little truck promptly
found a new owner. And "my" old van's transmission went within weeks. He's
happy with his nearly new little Neon, even if it seldom goes anywhere.

This was the main reason I pushed my retirement up. Trying to get
commitments to drive to and from work every day of the week would have
been extremely stressful. Even if I could find some one nearby, there
would still be days when they had to go to the doctor at the last
minute, or to the dentist, etc. I decided I couldn't handle it. I
would rather have worked longer and gotten more in my 401K, but it
wasn't meant to be.
