I've been following the news here in Ontario about the possible strike of
liquor store employees and how bars and restarants are stocking up on rum,
vodka etc.  Just before the August holiday weekend too!  While a summer
without the occassional treat of a icey cold vodka cooler would not seem
like summer, I can't help but wonder how much safer summer at the beach and
weekend travel would be.  Funny how I'm following this story even though I
haven't been much of a drinker since college, even without the meds.
Wishful thinking I guess.

Some wine would still be available and the Beer Store would probably be
thrilled with ppeople trying new things, I'm sure lol!

I live west of Toronto, only a couple hours from the Falls.  Hate to be
biased but the Canadian side honestly does have the best view so if you are
coming from the US definately cross over and visit!  There are plenty of
things to do and see and I could fill this post with a list but my vote for
a really nice day is (in no particular order) the "Maid of The Mist" ride, a
tasting tour of the wineries, a picnic lunch and walk along the the
escarpement and ending the day watching the sunset over the Falls.

If you like plays and theatre, Niagara-On-The-Lake has some really fine
dining and is a pretty place for casual walking and shopping, and African
Lion Safari isn't all that far a drive, same for all the golf courses.

Parking on the Canadian side at the Falls isn't alway easy, esp on
weekends, but for a couple dollars you can get a day pass on a really good
bus system that will take you past all the sights/events including th
casino.  Actually that's what I do when I'm in the Falls for the day, far
easier than dragging the car around and saves some serious energy for
enjoying the sights.

Haven't been to the US side in years so hopefully another poster has ideas.
Not for lack of trying, I'm usually just too tired by then lol!  I'd love to
hear about it though!

Lots of places to stay and eat, in the fall there will still be many
roadside markets/stands with everything from local fruit to jam, pies and
pastries.   If you are camping, Thanksgiving is the last weekend the sites
are open.  Since the Falls are a tourist mecca and romantic hotspot, the
prices for hotels are higher then average so you may save alot visiting in
the fall, I've never had trouble finding tasty, inexpensive food so enjoy!

Hth!

Some good info.
right now we are looking to book a room at the marriot on the canada side.
it has a view of the falls from a motel room. we will be coming in from the
us side.  we will be driving and need to check if that motel has parking
facilities. we wont do much driving after we get there.  the info we have
says there is trains or trollies to take you a lot of places. We want to go
on The Maid of the Mist, also the tower(?) .not too interested in the safari
but the sunset and shopping are things we will enjoy.  if you can get any
info from the sites Id aappreciate them. If you cand find any just email me
and I can give you my mailing address.
our  date planned so far is around the 10 of  october. any thing reason that
wouldnt be a good time to visit??
thanks Skip
we will talk nearer our time we plan to travel

October is good as there are far fewer crowds, although that is Thanksgiving
weekend and the 10th is the holiday so some things may be open different
hours but the hotel have that info.  I've gone to the Falls on Thanksgiving
and easily did everything I wanted.

There is an amazing view from the Skylon Tower, in fact I attended a wedding
at the top of the tower.  The couple said their vows in front of a fantastic
view of the falls followed by a sunset dinner in the tower's restraunt..
Very romantic and beautiful.

Did a fast google and found 2 good links to start with.  The Marriott link
will connect you with all the major attractions/events/shopping.  Definately
get a room with  view of the falls. The second link, Clifton Hill, is a fun
area to visit near the falls and is best in the evening when everything is
all lit up.  Lots to see, do and just gawk at.

Nothing will change where I am.

People here will just drive over the bridges to the Quebec side.

They did it when the SAQ went on strike, so now it's our turn.
