It shows that there are no new messages for today. I know that can not
be the case. I checked with google and found some that were new, so I
am not sure what is up.

Different servers update at different speeds. Google may
already have data that is taking a little longer with the
server you usually connect to.
Sometimes there may be some maintenance process going on
that slows a particular server for a short while.
The only time this kind of thing can present a real problem
is if posts are actually dropped, rather than just delayed a
bit. If you find this happening, you might want to post a
note to your news-server's maintenance team and let them
know whats going on.
I'm betting you get the updates soon.

Thanks Mike and LouJean. We typically have very hot summers here in
the southern interior of BC, but this is not one of them so it could
not be the heat that shut the news server down. LOL It must have been
the wind; that rattling dust carrying, bone drying, wind that has been
howling for days on end. It is a warm wind, mind, but it still drives
you crazy listening to it and trying to do any outdoor activity in it.
You were right, Mike. Things are back to normal today. A little
patience is all I needed, I suppose.

Maybe just too hot for it, Rose.
