Hi,

I just found out I have RA. I started MTX 2.5mg, 5 ea 1 day per week.

I took my first dose last night at about 8pm. I am curious if any of
you with MTX experience would share with me when the drug "kicks
in".... I am nearly at 24 hours after my first dose... outside of a
grumbly stomach, a slight bout of sleepiness and a bit of a strange
"weighty" feeling along with some unusual, not painful feelings of
pressure (for lack of a better word) deep within my head, I am feeling
OK.

Well, anywho... hello. I cannot say I am pleased to having RA, but I am
pleased to make your acquaintance.

Welcome.  I responded to MTX pretty quickly.  Within about three weeks.  I
take it by injection and feel a little off the day after I take it.  I take
it at bedtime so I get to miss the first twelve hours of any reaction.
Sometimes it gives me a headache, but that goes away if I remember to drink
more water.

It took several months for me, and that was with the dose increasing gradually.

Welcome to the group. You'll get lots of support and good information.

Hi CQB,

Welcome to our little family here!   Hope you'll stick around and feel
free to just jump right in!

As far as the mtx goes, it took about 3 months for it to kick in for me
and that was with slowly increasing the dosage along the way.   I do
mine by injection to help avoid some of the stomach upset and such.
Like the others, I also tend take mine at night so I sleep through the
first several hours of side effects.   The mtx does leave me feeling a
bit fatigued and feeling "just not quite right".   Sometimes I get
headaches and a little nausea, but that usually improves if I remember
to drink lots and lots of water on the day of and the day after.

Sure hope the mtx works well for you and that you get to feeling better
real soon!

Hi - welcome, though I'm sorry you had cause to find us.

When I started mtx, I began at 3 pills/wk (7.5 mg) and built up from there.
Took me a couple of months to get to 15 mg (6 pills/wk). I began to feel it
kick in after 4 doses at that level - and it was nice!    I'm not sure how
that translates for you, as you started at a higher dose.  I do remember lots
of folks saying they didn't see any positive effects until they got to 15 mg.
