Adelle - I have allergies to some makeup products. The
worse offenders for me are Max Factor and sorry DeeTee
Mary Kay. Then various other companies like Estee
Lauder which is overly perfumed -- even their lipsticks
can cause problems. But both the first two will peel
the top layer of skin right off me. My mother used
Clinique lipsticks for years and suddenly began getting
mouth sores. Her doctor told her to switch brands and
the problem went away.
So can she switch make up companies or is she suppose
to use the one she is selling?

I almost wish you hadn't posted this. Clinique products are the only ones I
don't seem to be allergic to after a use or two.
I cannot even find a shampoo that leaves my hair manageable, doesn't strip
color and that my scalp likes.

I love trader joes' shampoos. They are reasonable but don't seem to bother
my scalp at all!

May you continue to have no problems. lol I used
Clinque products for years and only changed to
Elizabeth Grady things but for one after I started
going there for facials. The woman who started the
company had terrible allergies and she seem to have the
same ones I had as I can almost count that I won't have
trouble. Now makeup is a combination of EG and Almay.
The blush is still Clinque.
I also change my blush with a new one each year and
lipsticks every 6 months and eye products at least that
often or when my eyes give me trouble. Tossing older
makeup makes a huge difference for me. Not sure if that
would help anyone else...

I use a brand I get from my hair dresser and no it is
NOT Paul Mitchell as that stuff will peel my scalp back
like the skin off an orange.
This is the stuff I use with no problems to either my
scalp or my color. Stripping hair color after paying
that much to have it done is not amusing. lol

Thanks. I'll definitely try it. My guy uses and sells and teaches for
RedKen. I love what RedKen does for my hair, but it makes me break out if I
use it at home too.
So I found a place in Sacramento where I can get Aquage and will add it to
my next hunting and foraging list.
Things are looking good. I've also found a place that sells "fat lady"
clothes that I like and a nice place to board the cats.
Our contractor even showed up last night. Life is good at the moment.

lol I suspect Redken would do the same thing to me
that Paul Mitchell does. It has an odor and anything
with much of an odor also includes item my body does
not care for.
You do sound like things are going well out there. Now
if I can just get this house sold we can find a house,
get repairs if any done [thinking old kitchen with
tiles is not going to cut it], move, get settled and
breathe.

Mom's selling jewelry, not cosmetics. But your appearance 'sells' in retail.
If you look put together and sharp, the purchasers trust your opinions more.
Mom uses a variety of brands. She is convinced it's not an allergy because
there is no redness or itchiness. The top layer just peels off. With no
swelling, itching, redness, etc., I am leaning toward it not being an
allergy either as allergies usually show some form of inflammation
She's wondering whether it's part of the 'thinning skin' affect of the pred.
or possibly something with Kinneret.
Thanks for the help, guys. I'll forward your responses.

When my fingers got sore and peeled and split - no redness before or
after. The best way to check would be to continue the meds, since she
probably needs them, and stop the makeup, if she can. I never wear
makeup unless it is a real important situation, and then I use the
bare minimum I can get away with. At the age of 66-3/4, my skin still
looks like 40 or less. Most people guess me as in my 40's (blush
blush).
Another comment - how old are her cosmetics? They recommend most
makeup components to be thrown out after a short period of time -
can't think of it now, but you can probably Google it. I do know that
6 months is the absolute maximum on mascara.
Good luck. I still think her best bet is a dermatologist rather than
us making lots of guesses. Let us know. We care.

She might well be right about the prednisone causing or aggravating the
situation. I don't like my skin when I have to take it for very long.
But I'm sure the pred is a necessary good/evil thing. Still a dermatologist
may be able to recommend something that helps. Just a weird idea. I don't
know the details, but my sister-in-law has very sensitive skin. She
cleanses it with skim milk. Cannot tolerate any other cleansers.

I would still see a dermatologist cause something is
going on.
