I'm hoping to update you on my TKR at the end of the week.
I'm not doing as well as I would like. The side effects from the
surgery have been a real problem. I haven't been able to exercise very
much.
I see my doctor and get an x-ray on Thursday. I'm hoping that the new
knee is ok, that no adjustments are necessary.
I have had a lot of pain, not from the knee surprisingly, but all the
side effects one gets from surgery. My RA is acting really weird I
have had severe pain which moves from one joint to another never
staying longer than one day in each joint.
The pain, whether caused by side-effects or RA has been horrible. My
husband Richard is wonderful. He is taking really good care of me and
is so loving and patient.
I am so very worried that somehow the implant is not right. I haven't
been able to wear the leg brace at night (wore it for five days)
because of the pain. I haven't slept more that two hours at a time.
My husband says not to obsess about the implant. It's cemented into
place and I haven't been twisting my leg.
I don't know, not in a very good place and these drugs are making me
wacko.

Elizabeth, hope the xray will show that the knee is all right and you can
stop worrying about that. Be sure the doctor gives you adequate pain
medicine. I believe TKRs are more painful than THRs, which is what I had.
But with the correct pain medicine, you should do much better.

Athena? Have you told your surgeon about the knee and brace?
Reason I am asking, my friend had a knee replacement and she developed
fluid, nothing showed it on the outside. They had to remove that fluid and
the pain got much better.
Are you getting therapy at home? This is really helpful and they come to
the house to help you out. Are you still using that machine that helps
with movement?
Please contact that doc and have him get an xray of the knee. This does
sound a little fishy and in my experience they need to check that out now.
good luck

Have you called your doctor? It could be something that he can adjust and
take care of for you. Also, he can give you the pain medication you need to
control the pain. There's no earthly reason you should have to suffer like
this. Get on the horn, Hon, and let them know what's happening.
Get well soon, DeeTee

Sounds like you need a different pain medication for a
bit. I had delauded [sp] come home with me as that
percocet [sp] they tried first was like taking a sugar
pill. My restless leg problem was worse just after the
TKR and when it began to jerk, that was just awful. I
got my doctor to double the dose for the duration and
now I am back on just one a night.
I wouldn't wait -- I would call ASAP. Do you have
visiting nurses coming to see you?

That would be Dilaudid (or hydromorphone) .

That would be double the dose of Neurontin...

Good luck tomorrow on checking the knee. Hope they find everything is
all right and can come up with the medication. When my Mom had hers
done, she had the physical therapist come twice a week and a visiting
nurse came once a week. I don't remember how long they came and can't
ask because she has gone to the grocery store.
I am on Neurontin, 300 mg four times a day for neuropathy of my feet
and lower legs. Without it, my feet burn and it travels up my legs.
I tried cutting back to three a day, but it didn't work. So I take my
four a day (which incidently don't seem to affect my OA and RA - for
them I take Celebrex replacing Bextra which really worked).
We'll be thinking of you tomorrow.

Elizabeth, I was putting away my monthly medication
stash and found what remains of the dilauded [sp]
[sorry, someone spelled it for me and I saw but did not
retain]. Anyway, they were in a tablet where you had to
punch them from the card and I put John in charge of
them because they made me loopy. Looks like the last
day I took them was 11/19. My knee surgery had been on
11/06. Thought that would give you an idea of how long
I hurt while needing big guns to stop the pain.
Basically filled in with what I normally take for pain
after that which is Ultram.
So how long has it been since surgery?
