I have written and told you that I was approved for enbrel. Here is my
question, when I saw my RA my hips were hurting, I was so fatigued, the mtx
had helped my hands and wrists, but feet still hurt some, so he said keep
the mtx and lets add enbrel. Well I also started zithromax for a sinus
infection, now into the 4th day of the antibiotic, I am feeling better than
I have in about 9 months, no pain in my hips or minimal and my hands joints
aren't swollen much at all.
Would you go to a big gun med like enbrel, if you were starting to feel
better? Ireally haven't had many days like this in the last 3 years, I am
still stiff and sore after sitting much, and I feel pings now and then in
the hands, and feet, but wonder if maybe I shouldn't take the enbrel tell it
starts to hurt bad again, just wondering, don't want to take something I
don't need, but it is hard to say, I have taken zithromax before and never
really noticed anything so I am sure it is not related, probably wishful
thinking and being a little scared about taking yet another drug, and one
that hasn't been out to long.
Any thoughts would be appreciated,
Thanks
Becky

Hey, Becky,
I'm new to the RA thing and take Plaquenil. My uncle is a pediatric
rheumatologist in Houston and would rather I were on your regimen. He says
the combo of Methotrexate and Enbrel has put many of his patients into
lasting remission and is one of the more exciting treatments he's come
across in a while. He's very gung ho on it.
Some antibiotics are also anti-inflammatories, which is partly why they are
used to treat RA. It may be that Zithromax has those properties, which is
why you feel so much better. How long with you be on the Zith? Maybe you
could hold off on deciding to see whether the effects of the Zith are
temporary?

Yes,,,, but tell the doctor that the sinus medicine made your hips better.

Enbrel has been out for a long time. I bet some people are in their 10th
year.

Hi Becky,,,, you are doing a pretty good job of talking yourself out of
trying something new. If Enbrel works well enough for you,,, you may be
able to get off all the other medicines. That was my story but I would be
more excited about getting control of your sinus infection and some joints
stopping hurting. Something that your RD needs to explore. You may not
need Enbrel.
Just my thoughts.

According to the FDA, Enbrel was released in 1998

Yes, but we had people posting here that were in the first trials and are
still taking it without problems.

Ps It was a lady from Ala. that has remarried since and those trials were
from 5 to 7 years which could put her use of Enbrel at about 14 years.

I have lupus and won't take any of the big guns unless organs are
threatened.
I use pain meds for pain.
It would depend on what your disease is... lupus doesn't deform joints the
way RA does neither does it destroy joints... so go w/your gut.
take care
