May be out of touch a while

I might be out of touch for the next week or so depending on what the
news is tomorrow morning.  Our AC went out yesterday morning and the
news is that we need a new condenser. We find out for sure in the
morning about the time frame for getting one but were told that it
would be Wednesday at the earliest if we go with the same thing we have
now. But then we are being told about newer more energy efficient
systems which would involve not only more money but more time till it
would be here and installed. We were told next weekend at the earliest
but I don't think the man realized next weekend is the 4th weekend. Of
course I know next to nothing about central ac systems other than how
to turn them on.  Now I need a crash course on this new freon free
stuff and variable speed air handlers. Oh boy!

So -- Sounds like it's time for a quick vacation to a cooler climate or
at least to a hotel with AC. Florida in summer is a rotten time for
this to happen. I've spent the past two days sitting in my recliner
chair sipping ice water with the paddle fans on high speed, wearing my
ice vest. I'm keeping all the lights off and all machines off except
for the tv I'm watching.
Most of the time the house thermostat reads 84-85 but when we got back
from dinner tonight it had shot up to 89.  I've been trying to keep the
doors and windows closed to keep the humidity out but we had to open
them up tonight because it was cooler outside than in. I can only
imagine what tomorrow will be like!

Please keep me in your prayers that we can get something done quick! MS
and no AC in FL don't go together at all! I''m doing ok till about 5:00
and then it really gets to me. Of course, I haven't been feeling well
to begin with and been running a temp since last Monday anyway.
Yesterday was bad with a 100 degree temp on top of the AC being out.
Tomorrow I will hear a bit of news around 8-9 am and then decide where
to go.  If you don't hear back from me it means I'm skipping out.
Well, figuratively speaking that is.  Take care while I'm gone!  Diane W

I hope you get some relief soon, one way or another. I promise not to
complain to my husband about being hot at night when the house is 72
degrees.

Well we quickly decided before our morning coffee to upgrade to a 12
SEER Carrier nunit and get the entire condenser but not the air handler
at this time and not the new fancy system with the non-freon that costs
more than my son's first year of college. They will be here at 10!  Not
jumping for joy cause it will make me too hot but very happy indeed. I
wonder how long it will take to cool down the house?  DianeW

I do not blame you for skipping out Diane.  An AC guy told me that pretty
soon all new house ACs will cost way more but use far less ele.  It seems
the feds have passed a law to help the nation with the production of and the
use of ele.   We had to put 3 lbs of  AC juice about a month ago and we have
a slow leak somewhere in the system.   I do not want to live in Houston with
an AC that is not working well.  I see on the weather that it is just as hot
in the cooler states as it is here... Wow, fried yankeeee.  LOLOL

Diane W.

I hope things go well and quickly with getting in the a/c. I know how this
heat is if you don't run it. I feel for you and hope there is a quick
solution to the problem.

(((((((((((Diane)))))))))))))))  I truly do feel for you!  Several years back
our a/c died in July.  Must have been in the late 90s, as I was still working
at Shands at the time.  Found it dead one night after work and working out.
Had to wait a couple of days before the repairman could come.  Oh!  I
remember, it was in 99, because I had my hysterectomy later that summer -
ovaries went too and I had 3 weeks of menopause before starting hormones.
LOL  I remember telling my gyn I was *really* glad we'd just had the a/c
fixed!

Anyway, I've been there, with a busted a/c in FL in the heat of the summer.
not fun.  We spent our evenings at the library to keep the house as cool as
possible.  We got lucky though - it was either a small part or the whole
system and it turned out to be the small $15 part.  Unfortunately, it just
died again with our tenant living there and this time it's a $1200 repair
job.

Yikes!  Menopause and NO AC together would have been a recipe for
murder in my house!  LOL I remember when I lived in Cincinnati after my
college years and had no ac. I was murderous to those around me! Spent
a lot of time at the pool with the kids and movies and such. Could
muster getting out of the house Sat cause I was sick with a UTI and
felt so bad. Did manage to have a long dinner at Denny's that night and
then same on Sunday only change the restaurant.  Well it's fixed now.
Needed a new compresser but we changed the whole condenser because of
it's age and the efficiency stuff.  Around 2200.  Should be it till we
have to replace the handler.  We will probably do that next spring.
Then everything appliance wise in the house and the roof are under 2
years old. Not counting tv's and computers.  DianeW
