Hi, my wife's been encouraging me to start taking a natural supplement
for my arthritis, what would you folks recommend? Shark cartilage?
Glucosamine? Collagen?

Thanks,
Adam

You need to find out 1. if you have arthritis, and 2. if you do, what kind is
it? My RD recommended Glucosamine for osteoarthritis, but I have RA as well and
take some of the DMARDS for that. Diagnosis is an important first step.

Well, I've been taking Arthri-Zen for MY knees, and its worked
fantastically for me, much better than the two others I took previously.
I understand it works for most any arthritis, but I'm no doctor...
http://www.zenrelief.com/ is where I order it, although its in stores
too. I take the kind with Glucosamine and Chondroitin.

???

I was first taking just your regular NSAIDS, Motrin I believe, and then
switched to a product I saw advertised on TV called Lakota before I made
the final switch. So I guess that's really one other "supplement," not two.

Adam, I have OA just about all over, have had one hip and a thumb joint
replaced.  I have been taking Osteo Bi-Flex about 6 or 7 years, and know
that it has helped me.
It is a combination of glucosamine and chondroiton.

Is it just glucosamine and chondroiton, or other herbs too? Does it stop
pain as well, or just rebuild the joint tissue and then your pain stops
once the joints are healthier again?

Also have you tried any other supplements?
Gwen Love - 28 Jun 2005 19:35 GMT
Adam, you can get Osteo Bi-flex with MSM, but I don't use that; I just get
the one with glucosamine and chondroiton.  Don't take any other supplements
for OA but do take Milk Thistle for liver protection (I have some meds that
affect the liver) and grape seed extract to prevent hair loss.
