I wish I had the stamina to go to Portland. I did get to Seattle today for the first time since I got sick. I went to a Photoshop Elements workshop. It was good to get out of the apartment and I learned a lot about restoring and fixing photographs. The nice thing about the workshop was that it was free. I only had to pay $9 to park the car. And I was one of the first 100 people to get there, so I got neat free stuff :-))) But now I'm tired, so I'm heading for the couch :)

Squirrely - 19 Jun 2005 06:47 GMT Diane and Carole,
I wanted to go there too but too long a trip to make there. I have been sad too because I wanted to meet everyone.
But we can pacify ourselves with knowing we won't be waking up with a headache. LOL ;-)
Just picking on the gimpfesters. I love you all. I hope you are having a wonderful time.
Signature Love and hugs to all Good thoughts coming your way too.

It would have been fun to meet everyone though. Maybe next time they'll have it in Seattle :-)

The advice that I got from people on here really helped me. Emphasize what you can no longer do, rather than what you can do. After I applied, they sent me a long form of questions that I had to answer on how I funtioned. And I put down all the things that I could no longer do or things that I had to change to be able to do things (like I now have a stool in my kitchen so I can cook and I have a chair in my bathroom as I am short of breath just from taking a shower). I also had my cardiologist write a letter to send along with my medical reports.
Hugs, Carole :)

That is probably the BEST piece of advice that could be given out to anyone thinking of applying for SSDI. Forget about ASA (but don't forget about all of us). Forget about computers and keyboarding. Otherwise, some jackass at the local welfare office (which reviews SSDI claims on contract with SSA) will say, "OH! You could be a secretary, or work in IT as a gofer."
... I'm not a wit's end, but I can see it from here.

You could be a secretary, or work in IT as a gofer." It certainly helped me. I made a list of all the things that had changed in my life since I got sick. The fact that I now have to have a chair in my bathroom and a stool in my kitchen. And that housecleaning has to be done in smaller segments as I can't do it the way I used to. I even put down that I cut my hair shorter as my longer hair was too much for me to care for. I didn't realize how many changes I had to make in my life until I started listing them.

I have three healthy children, four healthy and beautiful grandchildren. My mother is 88 and still capable of getting around and driving. I was close enough to Social Security to be able to retire. I had a good 401K to help support me in my retirement. I have a dog that is so funny except when she is sure it is time to eat. Then I get the furry paws on the edge of my chair and a set of big puppy eyes (she's 12, don't know how she remembered those). She also tries a few "ahems". Dumb dog, she knows to bark once to come in, but hasn't realized that a bark to go out will work, too.
