Thank you all soooo much who emailed me and posted about the risks and
dangers this "leaking hole" in my leg could actually represent. It's so
easy for us to overlook a little thing with all the other things that
bother us. And trust me when I tell you this was a "little thing"  I
couldn't even see the hole in my leg but it was there and developing a
tunnel under the skin which is the beginning of bigger problems if not
treated. The wound care doctor wasn't concerned about it at first it
was so tiny but was impressed with the tunnel it had developed under
the skin. He took a scapel - can you say "ouch" and opened it up and
then gave me something to pack in there to close it up from the inside
out.  Thank you again for all this wonderful advice and warnings. See
-- I listened! And now I have an achey shin and I'm getting better
without getting a major leg ulcer.  :)  DianeW

How long ago was it that this happened to her. My impression from the
doctor was that the under the skin type of stuff can happen without you
even knowing it. That's why he probed and cut it open to stop the
tunnel. I guess the hole makes a outlet source for the fluid in the leg
and then the fluid seeks a way out. That way out makes the tunnel
rather like a path that gets used gets worn in. If it lasted a long
time the tunnel just might stay there. But I don't know how it would
get bigger if the drainage stopped.  Just guessing here.  Let me know
what she says.  DianeW

Good news, Diane. May I go do your dressings? Wound care was my favourite part
of being an ET nurse. :-)

Come on down!  Everyone needs a summer vacation in Florida!  LOL  I ask
my husband yesterday if he wouod do this one for me because it's in a
difficult place for me to reach. I'm not so flexible anymore. Combine
that with the fact that I have to pack a string of this material in a
hole I can't see.....that ought to be a neat trick. I think he's going
to try it for me. The other wound I have on my other knee is healing so
nicely the wound Dr said I was doing a great job on it without him! Of
course he trained me on what to do with my previous two wounds. I
probably wouldn't have gone to him for this one unless it took a turn
for the worse. But the hole....well, that's a different story now isn't
it. Thanks to all those here.  DianeW
