I know all about the warnings of Humira and infection. But I've been on
lots of DMARDS and just recently (in the past 3 weeks) I've had 2 tooth
abcesses and shingles. Are other people finding they get more
infections on Humira or is it just a me thing? It's beginning to freak
me out.

I've got the same thing going with Enbrel...almost everytime I take a
shot I get a sinus infection.
My new RD is going to try me on Remicade...I'm not really sure what the
thought process there is...but I'm hoping it will work without making me
sick all the time.
When I told my doc about the infection thing he told me 'gee, I've never
heard of anyone having that problem before'. some help he is.
Hope things get settled for you soon.

Discuss it with your RD some folks are more prone to infections. It
has not been a huge issue for me on Remicade but for others it has.

(((((((((((((((((Kate)))))))))))))) i don't know your answer, specifically
about being more susceptible to infections while on humira, Kate. wish i
could help you with that.
fairly recently, though, i have noticed that for some reason as my family
members and friends get older they seem to be more susceptible to more
serious infections. like i never, in my wildest imaginings, expected my
younger sister, who's always been the fittest, healthiest, strongest, most
adaptable and best at coping with stress, to have pneumonia put her in bed
for two weeks like it did. so, my brain's been trying to reconcile aging
with susceptibility, which might not be on the right track.
so, maybe, if you are over 50, that's a contributory factor and you're just
noticing it more? what about stress as a factor, kid? consider if you've
been under more stress during this past year. certain kinds of prolonged
stress definitely makes our bodies more susceptible to all kinds of
illnesses, infections, inflammation. you've probably already considered
that. wish i had an answer for you.

Of all the side effects I got from Humira, infections (thankfully)
wasn't one of them. I have seen the effect of Enbrel on infections
though (just getting over a sinus infection that became strep throat
that became pneumonia, lucky me at least I didn't have to into
hospital, which is always a plus). I'm hoping it is a one shot deal,
otherwise... Oh I'm not going there.
I hope that something can be found to help you. There is nothing worse
than needing your "drug" (be it Humira, Remicade, or Enbrel) and not
being able to take it because you are sick.
My RD told me that even after I felt "better" I could not take my
Enbrel for one full week after I was well. That'll be next Wednesday.
My prayers are with you that you find your "magic bullet" and it
doesn't make you ill.
