Squirrely - 14 Jun 2005 23:35 GMT OK here is how today went.
Had thyroid ultrasound. Funny it took them one hour instead of the usual 15-20 min. So I have a feeling this is not going to be a good one. From what I could tell the big guys must have gotten bigger. She also spent alot of time around the windpipe area. This maybe will explain if I eat peanuts at 7 or 8 at night, the next day I wake up with a mouth full of chewed peanuts.
Ok went to dr. The leg I hurt 3-4 yrs ago when the trash can won the fight. It has torn ligaments and tendons that never healed right because no one bothered to look at it when I fell. They were only worried about the swelling in my foot at the time. So there is nothing I can do about that. Because of this damage, that is why leg and ankle are giving me so much problem. Nice huh.
then the toe that had blood under skin and then turned black the same day is some kind of cyst. Watch it for a few days if not better come back in.
My regular dr, the one I saw today and I discussed what endo said about thyroid med that I can't take. So she changed my thyroid med to armor. The other one is lactose based and I have a lactose problem.
We discussed the diabetes and trying to find something that doesn't have sugar to rehydrate me but no such luck yet.
She also mentioned an echo cardio gram. They are checking to see if I already had one or not. Neither of us are sure.
I don't know what good that will do since in two weeks I will no longer have medical insurance. But what the heck.
So there is the skinny.
Signature Love and hugs to all Good thoughts coming your way too.

d'huit - 15 Jun 2005 16:11 GMT (((((((((((((((sj)))))))))))))) boy, kid, i wish you didn't have to go through all this. i'm still hoping the ultrasound was a good one.
hon, about those tendons and ligaments that never healed---it doesn't sound to me like the right doctor talked to you about them, even now with this doc. i'm almost certain there must be a surgical option, when you can avail yourself of it, instead of having to just put up with it. your altered gait, because of that damage that hasn't healed, could put your spine at risk for injury or damage.
i can't remember the name of the beverage, but there is a flavored water, that is not carbonated (it's the carbonation that is dehydrating), that has no sugars in it. comes in all different flavors and is quite yummy. i'll have to look for it for you, so i can get the brandname to you.
as always, you remain in my healing thoughts and prayers.

> OK here is how today went. > [quoted text clipped - 29 lines] > > So there is the skinny. Squirrely - 16 Jun 2005 18:13 GMT Boy Kate, your post had me in tears. I knew about what you said, about things getting worse because of the damage. But you gave me more to think about. It is all falling into place more now of how I was almost pain free for about a year before that fall. then after the fall, everything got worse, the back, hips, feet. I already have had problems with them. But didn't have problems with the ankle, leg, and knee, or arm stuff. It made me think about it and now I realize that fall was the start of all this other stuff.
It makes me so angry to think about how when you go in for a fall, they usally only look at the worse area and don't think to look at the whole body since you jarred it all around from the fall. They miss so much that way. Because I was having pain in foot, ankle and leg when I went in and my shoulder on that side too. But the only place that was swollen bad, was the foot, they only xrayed the foot. So that is how this all got missed.
I was thinking sue, but there is no way I can prove now that this all happened from the fall. They could claim it happened another time. I have no proof that it was the fall that did this for me.
Ok enough on that.
Thank you Kate, Carole, Diane, Debbie for your hugs, and caring. It does mean alot to me. Thanks also for the suggestions on hydration. Not sure I can use them. My problem is water in water out. So that is why for the last three years we have been using the pedialyte. Trying to keep fluids in where they belong. ;-)
Had already lost our Kaiser insurance when Jim got layed off. So was on 18 months of Cobra. Now that is running out. Can't get more, can't afford insurance. the prices are outrageous. When you have no income coming in, there is no way you can pay those prices. Can't get SSDI or SSI so can't get medi cal or medicaid. Can't get those anyways because of requirements. I don't know how some people get them and they don't meet the requirements. But I am still looking around to see what we can do. I haven't been the last two days, though, the pain has been unbelieveable. I think pain is bad because of the storm coming in and also the pressure changes from the earthquakes. This pain is more than the dr messing with my leg and the back, neck and chest from the ultrasound. This is a whole body experience. ;-)
Thanks again for you all being so supportive. It has helped me get thru alot.

I am only allowed 64oz of fluids per day. If I go over then everything backs up and I get congested. The dietetican at the hospital told us to get sucking candies, so I do a few of those when I get dry.

If you have no income coming in, and you are disabled, why can't you apply for ssdi? When I got sick they told me at DSHS to apply for both SSDI and SSI. I called last week and they said a decision had been made, I'm just waiting for the letter. I did get a letter with a pass code so I could log onto the website to check on my payments, so I'm kind of assuming that I was approved, but I won't know for sure until I get the letter in my hands.

Squirrely - 18 Jun 2005 08:07 GMT Carole,
Thats a good idea about sucking hard candies. I think they have some diabetic ones too. I will have to look and see.
I can't get ssdi because of not enough units worked. SSI can't get because of our IRA which it looks like we are going to have to break soon. Then of course we will get the penality of breaking into it too soon and loose alot of money. But they won't give you any help till you have $0.
I talked to the people at social services and they told me I couldn't get medi cal because you have to be 65 or older, blind, have small children, be pregnant, have had breast or cervical cancer, and I don't qualify under any of those.
To get medicade, you have to have had SSDI.
We have been shaking and baking and now we are trying to fly to Kansas with Toto our dog. LOL I can feel a great disturbance in the force. Actually it is the pressure changes but I thought the other way sounded better. ;-)

After I became eligible for SSDI, I was able to also qualify for SDI until my Naval Reserve pension kicked in because the SSDI income was below the SDI level. So that zero dollar someone told you is just bull.

MediCal ** IS ** the California version of Medicade. Same animal with a different name. Nearly every hobo/bum in the state qualifies for it, as well as those with HIV/AIDS, so someone is giving you a bum steer with that information.
You should file for MediCal, and if turned down file appeal after appeal.

There are ways to avoid the > penalty for early withdrawals due to medical bills. That's true. My best friend in NYC just cashed one of hers in as she has to pay COBRA for her medical insurance now and she didn't lose any money since she was using it for medical expenses.
>>I talked to the people at social services and they told me I couldn't >>get medi cal because you have to be 65 or older, blind, have small >>children, be pregnant, have had breast or cervical cancer, and I don't >>qualify under any of those. That's not true. I got medicaid and I'm presently on short term disability from my job with congestive heart failure. And I have medical insurance through my employer. They told me to use it as a secondary insurance, which I did and thus far it has covered all the bills from my hospital stay, cardiac catheterization, and all the other heart tests I had to have. I was approved for SSDI but that doesn't kick in until September. You need to talk to someone who knows what they are talking about.

I hope the ultrasound comes out OK.
As for rehydration, I got a Brita as I can't have a lot of things anymore. Not sure if you can have artificial sweeteners, but I make a nice iced tea and also a lemonade.
Why do they want to do an echo? I had one of those.
And how come you are losing your medical insurance?
