I am going to a sleep doc on Thursday for my extreme fatigue.. any one else
ever have to go through this? My RD wants me to see him as a consult.
I have been so sleepy that I fall asleep for no reason and I have NO energy
at all.. feel like I am dragging around weights on my arms and legs.

Rhonda, Who are you seeing? I use to fall asleep like that when I was
working...But now that I don't work and can sleep when I want, I have to
take pills to help with that...But I did see a doctor about my sleep and
found I had severe sleep apnea...After the weight loss that went away...

Rhonda
I've gone thru this. I had a sleep study done and it showed that I don't
cycle properly, no stage 4 sleep and I wake up a lot.
The doctor said that muscle relaxers and pain meds can interfere with sleep
and suggested to quit taking those and see if it helps. I didn't stop
either knowing that there would be no way to sleep while my muscle spasms
and I'm in pain.
I've tried many meds to sleep. I'm currently using Klonopin 2mgs, Atarax
100mg and valerian root, chamomile and passionflower capsules (my pain dr
told me to take the herbs with the rx) I still use musclee relaxers, pain
meds, etc.
I still have excessive daytime fatigue and use Provigil 200mg twice a day.
I take one in the morning then another around 1pm.
I used Adderall before Provigil came out and it worked very well. My dr
moved and I couldn't find another to rx it. Provigil became available and
my pain dr was familiar with it. It works well for me.
On days that I forget to take 'em or just feeling bad, I have the fatigue
that is so overwhelming.... I find it's one of the most difficult areas for
me to handle.
Good luck with your doctor

Rhonda,
If you find out no sleep problems. You might have your thyroid checked.
Wishing you good luck at finding out what is wrong and hoping for a good
fix.

This could be a good thing. If you have the sleep apnea and they suggest a
CPAP (continuous positive air pressure), take it. It has made a WORLD of
difference for Bob, who can literally rattle windows with his snoring, which
the machine stops cold.

I had a sleep study done and they found that I had both apnea (cessation
of breathing) and hypopnea (restriction of breathing), neither one as bad
as they could be, but together they are a problem. I tried a CPAP, but I
can't use it due to Sjogren's; my throat gets so dry that it hurts and
wakes me up after an hour or so (even with a humidifier for the CPAP).
Every so often I try it again, but it hasn't gotten any better. I also
have borderline low thyroid function and just started Levoxyl. Problem
with that is that it has to be taken on an empty stomach (when I get up
in the morning) and then I have to wait for an hour to take my NSAID's
with food. Ain't it fun...

To add, I would like to have another sleep study done...Just to see. I am
sure that with out my meds I do not get into that deep sleep...
I have found a good mix...2 zanaflex and 1 seroquel at bedtime...
Lets me sleep usually a good 5 hrs before I start waking...Longer if my pain
level stays down...
Hope you get some answers... I use Dr. Schwartz out of SW Med Center...

Hey thats where I am going. I am not crazy about Johnathan, but his brother
will do..They seem to be the only sleep docs in the city.

My wife went twice; once for the initial sleep test, and then a second
time for a more detailed test.
They recommended she get a CPAP machine.
It's been the best thing for both of us. We both now get a good nights
sleep, and my wife is not as fatigued as she was.

sigh.... I remember when hubby had the CPAP thing and he hated it.. I do not
see it as being glamorous or romantic at all. I am fighting to keep romance
alive while having RA..lol If it will work then I guess I can deal with it.
I look at it as it being a answer to my fatigue. I also fall asleep at the
drop of a hat during the day. My RD was wondering about narcolepsy? I have
never been told that I snore, but maybe I do and they just dont know it.

Honey - You get romantic BEFORE you go to bed. The CPAP is for sleeping.
