Well, just finishing up the packing.  We're leaving Wednesday morning, but I
will be putting in long workdays between now and then, so I have to summon
the energy to get everything done tonight.  Lots of housework and little
details... ugh.

I've given up trying to take the Max... it will take an hour from West Delta
Park to the hotel (the Max, one bus and the streetcar).  Seven Miles, One
Hour, Two Transfers.  Um.... I think I'll just cab it.  Need the car at the
campsite to power the coffeepot (priorities, ya know).

The weather doesn't sound promising... does anyone familiar with the area
know of a place that sells WHITE raingear?  I was going to check at
Vancouver and Seattle along the way, but it looks like we've just changed
our route, so will be missing those cities entirely.

A real vacation!  bwahahahahahhaha......

Well I don't know about white rain gear but Portland has everything
from gortex to less expensive gear.  Is white a brand or a color?
Columbia sportswear is centered out of Portland and they have an
outlet store you might want to check out.

Thanks for the info... if anyone will carry it, they should.  I'll call them
Thursday when we get into town... we'll still have some time to shop.  It is
a strange color for raingear, but it does exist out there somewhere.

See you soon Janet. John took suitcases and bags down
today. Finished one pair of river pants and another
pair is cut out. Getting there...

And I thought MY spare time was at a premium!  I was worried about finding
and/or buying the clothes I'll need, and here you are making them.  Good
show.

Yeah Duckie!  I pulled out all my rain gear.  It will be interesting
to see what happens.  Medford did say it might start to clear out on
Tuesday hope so!  Here is what Portland is saying:

.LONG TERM...A PACIFIC FRONTAL SYSTEM WILL MOVE ACROSS THE AREA
THU...PER CURRENT TIMING WHICH MODELS HAVE A FAIR RUN TO RUN
CONSISTENCY.  WED/WED NIGHT WILL BE DRY AS LIGHT OFFSHORE FLOW
DEVELOPS. BUT THU WILL BE QUITE WET AS THE SYSTEM IS PULLING IN
REMNANTS OF A TROPICAL CYCLONE. MOST RECENT NOAA SATELLITE TOTAL
PRECIPITABLE WATER (TPW) ASSOCIATED WITH THU SYSTEM IS AROUND 1.5 TO
2 INCHES.  THE LATTER PART OF THE WEEK AND INTO THE WEEKEND APPEARS
TO BE UNSETTLED AS THIS SYSTEM LINGERS OFFSHORE INTO EARLY NEXT WEEK.

Weird having a big storm this late in the season, we will see what
happens apparently they are having a hard time figuring where it will
go onshore.  Currently it looks like N. CA so Jo watch your driving!

Our weather has been completely weird.  Rain and storms in the Central
Valley in June?  Unheard of.  And our forecast is usually good five days
out.  Now it is changing every six hours.

We are taking two days in any case so will be in no hurry.  Wonder if the
Jet Boats run in the rain.  They should since you're gonna get wet anyway.

I was looking at the weather stats and in February we had 7 days of
rain in Eugene but in May we had 20 days.  Normal number of rainy days
is 16 in February and  11 in May.  Remember that in January- February
we had less rainfall than Death Valley Ca    Weird weather we get few
rainy days in June but this has much more than usual. They do say when
we get a dry winter we usually get a wet spring so I guess that is the
norm, for  upside down and backwards weather!  -- MZ

Latest here is that the storm is supposed to hit Sacramento on Friday.  So
maybe Portland won't be too bad.

Well I hope so but here is the discussion from Medford:
...UNUSUAL LATE SPRING PATTERN EXPECTED TO EVOLVE BY THE END OF
THE WEEK ACCOMPANIED BY WELL BELOW NORMAL HIGH TEMPERATURES AND
POTENTIAL FOR ABOVE NORMAL RAINS ACROSS PORTIONS OF THE REGION.

and here is Portland:
THE EXTENDED PERIOD LOOKS JUST PLAIN WET. INSTEAD OF A
NICE PROGRESSIVE PATTERN THE MODELS KEEP THE LOW OVER THE EASTERN
PACIFIC THROUGH THE EXTENDED PERIOD...MOVING IT SLOWLY SOUTH DURING
THE PERIOD.

Weird even the weatherman say it.  Rain from Portland to  Sacramento
you know it must be a big system.  Hope it goes south.  Oh well! -- MZ

the "weirdness" has extended into the midwest.  Heck, the weatherman even
called it weird weather on TV the other night. But at least it started
raining after getting so dry the grass was crunching.  Now it's rained for 6
days straight and stuff's really gonna grow when the sun finally shows up
again!  Still, after a cold summer here last year, we'd like some "normal"
Michigan summer on Sundays/Mondays for a while so we can take some 2 night
camping trips on Mike's day off.

I think the midwest has the high which is the center of the omega
block, so it might linger.  I hope it rains so our system doesn't
stall out.  Yikes I want to get on the river Tuesday!  rain rain go
away!

I think they run if they have enough passengers however I have never
seen covers on the boats, driving around at 25 miles per hour in the
rain might not be too fun.  -- MZ

Thanks, Rose.  I guess I won't be calling you for coffee as we drive past...
apparently the scenic Crowsnest route has beckoned to my driver :-)
